@___IBelieve___ @FoodProfessor My city does one every year, takes minutes and is just as you describe. I got one of the long form federal forms and it even required the title from my PhD from 30 years ago.
English

@Mudguy2013 @FoodProfessor Census is a snapshot of one day. It should quickly count the people in the dwelling.
But the long form census is very invasive and time consuming. Abuse of government power to force people to divulge so much information, which may not even be at hand.
English

About the national census...
There are actually very few food-related questions in the 2026 Census itself. Most of Canada’s food insecurity and affordability data comes from separate Statistics Canada surveys, not the census.
But by law, every household still needs to complete the census. Canadians have until tomorrow, May 12, to submit it — or risk fines of up to $500 under the Statistics Act.

@FoodProfessor In the early 90s when these models were being initiated, they were an acknowledgement of the importance of socioeconomic factors in the climate forecasts. Unfortunately, the many incentives to turn a blind eye became cultural and they were used for effect.

@ExnerPirot Lot's of positives here, promising direction to finally focus on Canada's strengths.

On the face of it, the federal government’s discussion papers on forthcoming legislation to improve regulation and permitting and trade looks very good

@ExnerPirot Pretty hard to build nuclear in AB with cheap AECO and inexpensive plants. 1 GW Cascade was under $1B, nothing can match that.
English

Yes this large reactor build will be expensive but Ontario seems to be the only province in Canada that has figured out that we need to build GWs of new firm electricity generation, and everyone else is just ragging the puck cause they’re afraid of the inevitable rate hikes

@ExnerPirot Basically building everything other than housing needs this.
English

Rumoured regulatory streamlining legislation now looking imminent.
Look, this may be to distract from the MOU negotiations, but also there are a lot of projects and sectors that need better, faster regulations in Canada and I hope this delivers

@ExnerPirot @BradWall306 Nice article. I like the line about the resource valley is still higher than the other (poorer) provinces peak.
English

This article doubles as a thank you note to @BradWall306 whose policies gave Saskatchewan opportunity, confidence, ambition and wealth.
I’ll note about 15-20 First Nations in Canada understood the recipe better than Ottawa did and created that opportunity for their own nations in the last boom. Hopefully many more follow in their footsteps this cycle.
English

We’re finally talking about generating wealth in the country, and this commodity cycle presents a generational opportunity to do so.
But you don’t build wealth with a AAA credit rating. You build it by embracing resource development, developing policies that encourage it, charging comparatively low taxes, and obeying the principles of free markets.
Just ask Saskatchewan, which used the last commodity cycle to be the only province to move from ‘have not’ to ‘have’ status and get on the top half, alongside Alberta, of the GDP per capita ranking the rest of Canada sits beside Mississippi on.

@TimHoustonNS Hopefully this becomes billions and thousands of jobs.
English

Nova Scotia is back in the offshore oil and gas business with over $210 million in new private investment.
This means real exploration work, good jobs for Nova Scotians, and more opportunity right here at home. It also means growing our economy, strengthening our energy security, and investing more into the services people rely on.
Momentum is building and the world is taking notice.
Let's keep going.

@ExnerPirot @polymictic Imagine the NWT today if the Mackenzie pipeline had been built.

@polymictic It needs a lot more encouragement. Best time for NWT to get their house in order was five years ago, second best time is today
