Might buy a new laptop. Is a MacBook worth it, or just paying extra for the logo?

Propaganda about Europe needing AC is dangerous and must stop Heat waves are uncomfortable, yes, but they are survivable with basic common sense AC is a luxury that accelerates the climate crisis causing these hot summers! Instead destroying our planet even more, we must embrace sensible solutions: staying in a shade, opening windows at night and siestas Europeans don't "need" AC to live productive lives Let's just accept that sometimes weather is hot (shocking, I know) A little discomfort is a small price for being morally correct

@systemdesignone Yes, it’s a piece of shit. I’m actually not sure if anyone likes it to be honest apart from the hardcore coders. The reason it got traction is probably because it was written for Linux kernel developers.

Facts about Git >Has a steep learning curve >Makes merge conflicts inevitable >Has many ways to do the same task >Lets you rewrite history and lose work >Simple tasks require cryptic commands >Creates error messages nobody understands >Forces developers to memorize obscure workflows Why do people like this thing?

It's incredibly dumb to think that a non-technical person can vibecode as well as a decently experienced programmer -- as if AI is doing all the work. Not having a mental model of what you can and cannot do will make you hit invisible walls. I'm not saying a motivated person can't learn to create great apps with AI. I'm saying put two people on a desk. One technical, one not, and have them vibecode the same thing. The results will be predictable. I've literally watched non-technical people vibecode. They get stuck on the most random things.

Elon Musk once jokingly offered to end World Hunger, asking how much it would cost as if it would be some incalculable number. When the UN replied saying 6.6 Billion would be enough to immediately end Famine for the year he never responded, and a few months later bought Twitter for 44 Billion. You struggle and suffer because people like him are allowed to exist, not because your neighbor is an immigrant.

@jk_rowling Where you state what you think are facts, what you are in fact doing is making normative claims about language use, based on a premise that being trans is a dangerous disorder that needs to be corrected, not a normal variation that should be accommodated, socially & medically.

You might find it difficult to do two things at once, Paul, but I find it remarkably easy to enjoy the millions I've made while continuing to care about women's rights.

Thankfully we have @chrislynchmedia who bothered to investigate this story, and contacted Trade Depot MD John Christie who acknowledged the wording was incorrect. “An advertisement was posted on SEEK for a warehouse and dispatch role at our Hamilton site stating that proficiency in Hindi or Punjabi was essential,” Christie said. The wording was wrong, and that error is ours. Those languages should have been described as an advantage for this role, not a requirement. Trade Depot is against discrimination in any form. We hire on people’s skills and attitude. This listing didn’t reflect that,” Christie said. “Additional language skills can be a real asset at a branch, and that is what this role was meant to address. We removed the advertisement as soon as we became aware of it, and we are reviewing how our job advertisements are written and approved so this does not happen again,” Christie said. Everyone is welcome at Trade Depot. We apologise for it, and to anyone it discouraged from applying.” Seek should also be asked for comment - do they not ensure advertisements are legally compliant before publishing them? chrislynchmedia.com/news-items/tra…

@Woofology more people are jumping ship every day. Windows is not good, and it seems to be getting worse. I had to install it on a virtual machine for a client project and I could not figure it out. Nothing about it made any sense to me. I have been using computers since the 1980s!

@falconerd This is so vibe coder brained. What about maintaining and updating the app? How do you know that removing one feature will not break the app? What about compile time? Final memory size?

Programming isn't hard. They made it hard. They taught you to care about class hierarchies, design patterns, and philosophical concepts that have zero overlap with the code required to solve the problem. Look at what a program actually does. Data comes in. You transform it. Data goes out. That's it. That's the entire job. Everything else is optional. And most of it is wrong.
