We need leaders like Dean Preston in every state, at all levels of government - leaders who not only stand up to special interests, but also have the courage to address striking levels of inequality at their core. That's why I'm endorsing Dean for the SF Board of Supervisors.

Among the very real failures of elite schools, we should distinguish between things 100% in their power (admit fewer rich people and more low income people of all races) & things like expanding the student body, which are partly in the power of NIMBY local govts. (3/3)

It's true that elite schools don't always mind limiting supply to maintain a low acceptance rate. On the other hand, Yale wanted to expand for decades and New Haven said no. NIMBY towns (& Phil Bokovoys) are a major barrier to expansion at every university. (1/3)
