@KaiKai2492 Art is heavily affected by technology of the time. In video game's case, that's PBR rendering - very hard to pull off deliberate looks.

I'm actually very tired of Photo-realism.
So many games which once had distinctive artstyles now switched up because a lot of people will refuse to try a game if it has an anime/cartoony artstyle.
I don't even think they look bad but good lord, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, DMC, Onimusha, Monster Hunter, Stellar Blade, etc.
Look at this shit man I want art direction like this back in triple A.

still very disappointed it has taken this long to find time and build upon this. still stuck in an endless loop. problem back then was light bakes. ive worked on getting custom lightmaps in, lightdata instancing and custom baker, going to be a good season

@DS2LightingMod Ah yea I see, merely commenting on the overall aesthetic. I think when you do such realistic lighting on such outdated and sparse assets it looks a bit weird. Hopefully the modding community runs with it tho and updates the env as well.

@damdeuce It’s not a different mode of lighting, if for eg u keep the path tracer running offline for a few minutes the right image is what will come out eventually

@HPotterUniverse The issue is that these are graded for OLED HDR panels and they don't think to do a separate SDR grading despite it looking so bad it's become a meme

Its very odd but I also think long term once players adjust habits this update will be pretty "invisible" 90% of the time you never come close to running out of ammo in a round so as long as you dont "cod reload" after 5 shots you shouldnt notice much of a change.
