@dyneshv @ponni7 Aerospace needs higher altitude. As we know blr is situated 3000ft from msl. So the govt set up the aerospace there.

Economic illiteracy on display 🤦🏽‍♂️. Chennai is struggling to compete with BLR and HYD on high value finance and service sector jobs. Do these people think those jobs would go to Madurai if we built a new airport there? Without a Chennai gateway, investment will go to other states.
Aspiring Madurai@MaduraiGrowth

People of other cities in Tamilnadu are happy that Parandur isn’t happening. @CMOTamilnadu please focus on Madurai, Kovai , Trichy , Tuti and Salem airport connectivity, investments will pour in all parts of TN .

🚨CMRL has completed the Detailed Project Report for the proposed 5.69-kms UG extension from Light House to Madras High Court. Will soon submit it to the TN Govt. The ₹4,300 Crs project includes 4 stations of Ezhilagam, Island Ground, Secretariat & Madras High Court.

@titoraja @UpdatesChennai @cmrlofficial Yeah that's much closer than Chepauk. Missed opportunity if they don't take it up. If they're worried about inter-station distance they could have one at Kannagi Statue and then one at Anna Square to serve both Ezhilagam and Island Grounds.

@lonestar1007 @AvisharDutta Yeah that's what I meant too. Might be interesting in the long run. KPL is a superbly run port and can serve Chennai very well (plus Chennai Port owns KPL anyway). Meanwhile the city would get a waterfront district that could, with the right approach, be an incredible catalyst.

@dyneshv @AvisharDutta my bad actually, i thought chennai port was called as kamaraj port. Turns out kamaraj port is in ennore. so yea what i meant was, closing the chennai port and going ahead with katupalli and ennore

One option would been to build a CBD/Port City on Port Authority lands. Standard template for most global cities, old docks get moved out and dockyards get redeveloped. I know - Chennai port is still a very active port + port expansion in the north is diff, but just saying.

Why wouldn't the TN Govt consider repairing or reconstructing this old, broken bridge between Besant Nagar and Link Road near Marina? It would save a lot of time and ease traffic problems. #Madras

@Srinivas_091294 Given the snail's pace of the T3 rebuild, I'm not sure what a reasonable timeline for this could even be. I remember like 7 or 8 years ago AAI was talking to CMRL for advice on a tunnel from the main terminal to the proposed satellite building. They should have done it then.

The satellite terminal is presumably going to be somewhere on the western side of the main runway with access from the Bypass. They could just use that area for a new bigger cargo hub.

If a satellite terminal is all Chennai can look forward to, thanks to the stupidity of cancelling a new airport, then @aaichnairport should really reconvert/rebuild Meenambakkam as a passenger terminal. It's right next to a metro station and makes access much easier.

@NandaKu54835733 @ponni7 Anti-tamil sentiment has always been there, often linked to the Kaveri issue. But thousands of tamil people continue to live and work there. Historically many tamil people have lived in and contributed to Bengaluru's growth.

@NandaKu54835733 @ponni7 There was a big period in the 90s and 00s when a lot of non-kannadigas migrated there. Of course there has been some recent pushback from Kannadiga groups against North Indians but I don't think that was so prevalent 15 years ago. Anti-tamil sentiment is a different matter.

@NandaKu54835733 @ponni7 Because I'd like to believe that governments should do the right thing. People have many reasons to vote for someone and it's not possible for any party to keep every promise. The right thing for TN is to give its capital city and the country's 4th largest metro a decent airport.

@dyneshv @ponni7 Vijay won the election by opposing parandur airport. His agenda is to stop at the parandur airport. How would you expect a new airport?

@NandaKu54835733 @ponni7 This is a bit of a chicken and egg thing if you ask me. BLR has a reputation for being welcoming to outsiders. This is reflected in the fact that it has far better domestic connections from its airport than MAA. More people want to travel there but it's also because they can.

@dyneshv @ponni7 As I said previously. Blr favourable climatic attracts big tech massive companies investing there. Also talents from different states people prefer only blr. They ignore chennai for its harsh climate, only native tamil people only prefer chn.

@NandaKu54835733 @ponni7 Sure but none of that is the sole reason for not being attractive for higher level jobs. Weather can be overcome - people work in AC offices after all. Chennai has to fix what can be fixed. An airport starts that process.

@asvom_hub This coupled with preserving more of the land around Pallikaranai and the numerous lakes in south Chennai would have created a 3-city metro area (along with Chennai and Tambaram) centred on a massive green reserve. With good transport links it might have been great for QoL.

Do you remember the bold vision for Chennai in 2004? Had we executed the Vandalur-Kelambakkam satellite city plan back then, Chennai would have been lightyears ahead of Bangalore and Hyderabad by now. Crucially, the model mooted was land pooling, not land grabbing. Landowners would’ve been direct stakeholders in a world-class, organized grid development. Instead, we let it devolve into piecemeal sprawl. A massive missed opportunity for proactive urban planning. 📉🏗️ #Chennai #UrbanPlanning #Infrastructure

@NandaKu54835733 @ponni7 Chennai and TN have really good manufacturing, no doubt. But higher growth is going to come from better paying service sector jobs. We are losing out in that race. Parandur would give us a boost in trying to reach a 1.5 tn GDP level.

@NandaKu54835733 @ponni7 Hyderabad actually gets hot in summer but I don't think the weather is the biggest thing. Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad were all competing with each other in the 90s for those jobs but I think the latter two pulled away around 20 years ago. Their new airports helped.

@kuviran2 @UpdatesChennai Finally, to return to the agri point. TN has 12 million ac under cultivation, 2000 ac is nothing and making it an airport will not impact food supply at all. Again, agri is important but it depends on large subsidies which only the revenue from economic growth can provide.

@kuviran2 @UpdatesChennai Unless TN builds a new airport now, we will continue to lose out heavily in the race for service sectors jobs. Look at how many GCCs BLR and HYD have. MAA also does not have space to support large ancillary industries. BLR has built up a big MRO base around the airport, for ex.

What is the issue with Chennai Airport? Is the new airport for the people or just for corporates? You don’t even talk about farming, and farming is not overhyped. If we stop cultivation, will we end up importing food from other countries? Farming is the future, and food security matters more than corporate interests.
Chennai Updates@UpdatesChennai

This page is demolishing all myths about Parandur project and why we need it. Now explains why Chennai can't build an airport on sea. Well done @asvom_hub 🙏👏
