Girl Flees Andhra To Escape Sex Abuse By Stepfather, Gang-raped In Odisha ndtv.com/india-news/gir…

Central board of film certification.

To 1. Mr. Prasoon Joshi, The Chairman, Central Board of Film Certification, Mumbai. 2. Mr.Rajendra Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Central Board of Film Certification, Mumbai. 3. The Regional Officer, Central Board of Film Certification, Hyderabad. 4. The Regional Officer, Central Board of Film Certification, Sashtri Bhavan Chennai. 5. Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Cabinet Minister, Government of India, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. 6. Dr. L. Murugan, The Minister of State, Government of India, Ministry of Information. Dear Sir/Madam, I wish to introduce myself as ‘Ottran’ Dorai, a journalist and film critic based in Chennai. Today, I had the opportunity to watch the Telugu / Tamil film “Couple Friendly”, directed by debutant Mr. Ashwin Chandrashekar. The director has presented the story in a commendable manner, and the screenplay has been handled effectively. The lead actors, Mr. Santhosh Soban and Ms. Manasa Varanasi, have delivered impressive performances that will remain in the hearts of audiences. Music Director Mr. Aditya Ravindran, Cinematographer Mr. Dinesh Purushothaman, and Editor Mr. Ganesh Shiva have all contributed significantly and have done justice to their respective roles, serving as strong pillars of support to the film. “Couple Friendly” is a decent romantic drama filled with love, emotion, conflict, and empathy. It is a film that can be viewed and appreciated by audiences of all age groups. However, it is disappointing to note that the film has been granted an ‘A’ certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), whereas it appears more appropriate for a ‘U’ or ‘U/A 13+ / U/A 16+’ certification. The issuance of an ‘A’ certificate in this case seems unreasonable, especially when several Indian films containing sexually explicit content, violence, drug abuse, and offensive language have been granted ‘U’ or ‘U/A’ certifications. After the special media screening of “Couple Friendly” held in Chennai, I had the opportunity to interact with the director, Mr. Ashwin Chandrashekar. Upon enquiring about the reason for the ‘A’ certification, he informed me that the film was reportedly certified ‘A’ primarily due to its title, “Couple Friendly.” Generally, when a film is restricted to a particular age group, such restriction is based on the nature of its content and whether it is appropriate for viewing by younger audiences, as per CBFC norms. In the present case, it is difficult to understand how an ‘A’ certificate has been issued merely on the basis of the title “Couple Friendly,” suggesting that it is restricted to viewers aged 18 and above. The authorities of the CBFC may kindly note that the term “Couple Friendly” is neither obscene nor offensive. It is a commonly used expression seen in posters, advertisements, media platforms, and everyday conversation, and is understood by people of all age groups. Therefore, treating the title itself as grounds for an ‘A’ certification appears unjustified. The certification of “Couple Friendly” with an ‘A’ certificate may adversely affect the creative freedom and expression of filmmakers who strive to produce meaningful and family-oriented cinema. Such actions may unintentionally discourage genuine creators and instead push the industry towards producing content filled with explicit material, violence, and vulgarity to gain attention. In light of the above, I humbly request the authorities of the Central Board of Film Certification to kindly review this matter and reconsider the certification granted to the film “Couple Friendly.” It is requested that the film be re-certified with a more appropriate classification such as ‘U’, ‘U/A 13+' or ‘U/A 16+’, which it rightfully deserves, thereby supporting good cinema, sincere creators, and responsible producers. I look forward to a favourable response. Thank you & regards, ‘Ottran’ Dorai #CoupleFriendly @CBFC_India @AshwiniVaishnaw @DrLMurugan @manojac @santoshsoban @varanasi_manasa @UV_Creations
