Nicolas Winding Refn has announced that his next movie will be a fresh take on 1980s slasher MANIAC COP for Mubi. In the original movie from director William Lustig, a killer dressed in a police uniform begins murdering innocent people on the streets of NYC. Expect it in 2027.

@BDisgusting Maniac Cop seriously overachieved when it became a hit on VHS...so many indie horror movies failed to find an audience after the loss of drive-ins and indie-owned theaters...Maniac Cop was a solid hit.

@BDisgusting He's been wanting to do it for a while. He even has a commentary on Maniac Cop 2 with Bill Lustig. I don't see how it can work in today's climate without it being seen as exploitative by the ACAB side and hateful by the blue lives matter side... will it be a film for nobody?
