Yen exchange rate now back to 160 yen / USD I am not hugely affected by the exchange rate but trips back to the US with my family now easily cost close to 1m yen just for flight tickets. I told my boomer parents last year that if they want to see their only grandchildren (all my other siblings are in their 30s and are childless and unmarried) they should just come to Japan to visit. Past few years, they've come to visit this and has been a better arrangement: cheaper and I get to avoid the disaster of traveling with young kids on an airplane

@CacheThatCheque That’s what I did a few years ago. My parents are freshly retired. I can’t afford an annual trip from Oki to Tennessee for 4 people, but they flew out, stayed in a beach resort and got to play with the grandkids for a week. May do it again later this year!
