What's crazy is that they're still going to be highly needed and in demand for the coming decades.
It's purely a marketing stupidity over a fantasy why this is an issue right now.
But it'll be more in demand than ever as reality continues to bite back. Every day I feel like I'm hearing a new AI related catastrophe for over relying on it.
English

@CodeEdison dont be silly - you learn design patterns, systems engineering and how to express your ideas -
English

@CodeEdison This is a very big popular lie, computer science is still one of the best course/degree to study and have
English

@CodeEdison Good CS degrees pivoted to teach AI concepts much more deeply.
English

@CodeEdison That's because the degree doesn't mean much. Most of the great programmers started 20-30 years before the degree as a hobby. They also know the hardware. I guess JS/Web people doesn't know anything about it.
English

@CodeEdison however, even with AI,basic computer knowledge an code logic are still essential, and computer education needs to adapt to ai.
English

@CodeEdison You didn't need a degree to begin with you just needed interest at an early age and lots of persistence.
English

@CodeEdison Do yall ever get tired of reposting the same tweets for clout?
English

@CodeEdison I dropped out in 2000s got an ecommerce job. It hasn't been necessary for a long time.
English

@CodeEdison This is the worst takes in the history of computers and computer science, you miss the point entirely.
On the Contrary this will be the most sought after degree for the next 50 years, for the same reason you think its the worst.
LLMS are not for coding only.
English

@CodeEdison I doubt your conclusion. Yes, the developer roles will transform a lot due to AI, but no one wants sloppy AI written code they have no understanding of. This is a maintenance nightmare.
You need good developers enhancing their skills using AI.
English

@CodeEdison But still I believe that everyone should learn the fundamentals atleast.
With AI, I guess you can outsmart some really good coders of the past!
English

I am finishing my masters in computer science now, it’s still THE BEST foundation for any career you want to pursue. The future will crush anyone who is AI illiterate. Problem is students are still specializing in traditional CS fields like algorithmic engineering and theoretical CS rather than ML and deep learning. It also should never be the only degree to get, but rather your second major along finance, bioengineering, medicine, physics, chemistry or hell even art. The MAIN degree should still be non tech based due to the insane competition and over saturation of that field; while having CS under your belt to give you an advantage like nothing else you could currently acquire for the contemporary job market.
English

@CodeEdison You realize ai and llm tech and architecture slong literally every other thing computer and software related is considered computer science? Are you literally autistic?
English

@CodeEdison cs is doing okay, solely software development isn’t a moat anymore tbf
English

@CodeEdison You don't code anymore. You use tools to code for you. From Command line -> IDE -> .libraries -> whatever-> and now AI tools. The problem is reliability. If you ever updated updated code and it broke something, debugging was easy because you knew the logic. CSE still needed.
English

@CodeEdison We need critical thinkers and people who understand systems and can write code. As more and more people outsource to AI, people with such skills will be rare.
English

@CodeEdison just stating what you believe does not make it a fact.
English

@CodeEdison No not true, it is still worth it. No one, including me is gonna pay someone that has no idea about CS, pattern design, system architecture. How is gonna just let any random guy prompt and build their softwares?
English

@CodeEdison I would argue it’s a tool in generalized skill set. Not necessarily a waste, on its own yeah maybe.
English

@CodeEdison Lol, if computer science to you was about building landing pages and typing out code, sure, it is now one of the worst degrees
English

@CodeEdison Stop it. There's nothing wrong with pursuing a CS degree.
English

@CodeEdison if it ever was that, it feels like it took around 60 years?
English

@CodeEdison Best degree? Just be a plumber. AI can't fix your toilet. Yet.
English

No it has not
Software engineering/computer science is still the best career you can get into
Don't believe content creators on social media, they write negative stuff about everything as people are 5 times more likely to engage with things that upset than than what makes them happy
Almost every piece of software on earth has to be rewritten to use AI from the ground up
There are literally decades worth of work
English

@CodeEdison It’s more that, CS as a path to a run-of-the-mill engineering job is the worst.
As someone who could build their own models, it’s the best skill in the world to have right now.
English

@CodeEdison it’s going to be interesting to see how universities adapt. it will need to happen fast
