I don't think you understand why, for some roles, race-swapping doesn't matter, and for others, it would. Some stories rely on the person being of a certain background or ethnicity. Their particular background is a central part of the story (as with Gandhi). For the Odyssey, it doesn't matter if the characters are all strictly Mediterranean. Being Greek isn't as important as the other parts of the story. It's why no one cares that Matt Damon is playing Odysseus, even though he's white. It doesn't matter whether this character is played by a Greek. People are only mad because they don't like seeing non-white people in movies. That's it.
