We just hit 1,000 Followers!!! 🥳 For all my new followers, this is my journey. College dropout → fixed income trader → immigrant sleeping on his brother's floor → homeowner → on the path to £100k 📈 When I posted this I had ~500 followers. The story hasn't changed. The journey is just getting started. Thank you for being part of it 🙏 (Bonus: survived an shadow ban from the X gods - visible in the analytics dip 📉😅)

This profile’s growth has been great, so I thought I’d share a bit about me - from University dropout to hedge fund trader to £3 in my pocket to homeowner. Now building investments from near-zero. - University dropout (ran out of cash to pay) - Struggled financially for years but never took out debt as I saw the damage it did to my family - Spent 5 years as an execution trader at a hedge fund (mostly Fixed Income and stock borrowing/lending for shorts) - Moved to the UK and burned most of my savings to make it happen - 1 year in tech sales - 6 months bartending while job hunting (savings gone, hit £3 to my name at the lowest) - This is when I met the Mrs - living on a mattress on the floor of my brothers place. - Now a data analyst at a mortgage lender - Bought a home (debt) - Every decision – even when my salary was less than median rent – has been about sustaining my future - Driven by family financial trauma to never end up like that I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had. They’ve taught me enough about money to know exactly how to build the future I want: one focused on killing financially caused anxiety, especially around retirement. The home purchase wiped out the savings I’d built up (and my Mrs’s). So I started my proper investment journey from practically zero about 6 months ago. Thank you for joining me on my journey. Anyone else reset after a big life move? What’s working for you right now?

The story of Ronald Read really is insane. Born in 1921, Read lived one of the simplest lives you can imagine. He was a janitor and and worked as a gas station. To everyone around him, he looked like an ordinary, hardworking man with modest means. But he had a secret. Over the course of several decades, Ronald Read quietly built an $8 million fortune. How? • He lived frugally • He saved consistently • He invested in high-quality, dividend-paying stocks And most importantly… he held them for decades His portfolio included companies like Johnson & Johnson, Procter & Gamble, JPMorgan, and Dow Chemical. These were blue-chip businesses that steadily grew and paid dividends year after year. Read rarely sold anything. He simply let the power of compounding do the heavy lifting. When he passed away in 2014 at age 92, the town was stunned. Ronald Read donated $6 million to the local hospital and $2 million to the public library. Nobody had any idea he had accumulated that kind of wealth. His story is one of the best real-world examples of what long-term investing can do, even for someone who never earned a high income. Ronald Read proved that you don’t need a big salary to become wealthy. You need time, patience, discipline, and the willingness to let compounding work its magic. Most people look at this story and point out that he never 'got to enjoy his wealth'- And to a degree that is true. However, the deeper meaning behind this story is this: Anyone can build wealth when you let compounding work for you.

@MTMFinancial Monthly. I buy when my salary hits. Personally I think weekly/daily is better. But hard to hit minimums for pies to do that

Dollar Cost Average (DCA) is a broad term💸 Do you DCA…💷 ~Monthly? ~Weekly? ~Daily? I tend to deposit funds monthly and invest straight away, but thinking of moving to weekly📈

My first goal was to get to £100 Passive annual dividend’s excepted. Small goal yes, but it’s the celebration of these small goals that compound over time. This leads into motivation, sense of achievement and pushes you to the next ‘goal’ I’m approaching this, with 24% away.

How's everyone doing today? 📉 New investors, remember to hold your nerve, don't panic, and stick to the plan... Just zoom out on the graph and see how insignificant any dips or corrections are over a 20yr period. That's what here here for 💪🏻 It's easy to become disheartened, but this dip is nothing like a correction or worse. Tougher times will come to test you, so, remember why you're here and remind yourself of the timeline. Also, top tip... you only make a loss if you sell! Otherwise, it's just unrealised and doing its thing 🫡

@1BigCountryO Completely. And I think for good compounders of wealth, leaving it when you pass is the better way to do it.

@AshyCompounds Charity is important. And while I don’t donate often, I have 20% of my assets being donated when I die. And I try to volunteer in my local community.

I like that approach a lot. I have similair but my savings rate is 15%. I am looking to increase my savings rate with each income increase, as my current standard of life is good. I also prioritize 10% charity above everything which I consider an investment. But thats one spend I love.

@AshyCompounds I don’t think about life style creep at all. I have a goal for savings. 40%. Once I hit it, I spend what I want and don’t feel bad about it.

@Dom_Investing Yeah exactly. It was part of my growth pie, not divvy one. Honestly not entirely sure why I have a Dist one and not Acc. But happy to do that and distribute the divvies into the pie.

Oh I am actually the same. Did a weekend away to Cardiff recently. Something I have done many many times before. Used to get the bus (£18 return ~ $24) and Stay in a hostel (£13 ~$17). This time I bussed there, and used a budget hotel (£50 ~$66). After the bus I said, I am doing a train back because that is exhausting.

@AshyCompounds I spend more and more on travel each year. When I was young, a hostel and a work stay would suffice. Now I’m in a Hilton.

My portfolio (Opened August 2025) has just hit the negatives for the first time. What an amazing Buying Opportunity but I would not be surprised at all if you got into proper red territory in coming months. Interesting time. Just Keep Buying

Last year, Donald Trump Jr. invested in a rare earths startup at a $200 million valuation, per Bloomberg. Three months later, the U.S. government announced a major loan backstop. Now the company is valued around $2 billion, per Bloomberg
