My father passed away last week. As our family copes with the loss, we gain strength from the memories of his selfless service as a physician in several districts of #Odisha, and later in the health department in key administrative roles. As some Odia news media reported his passing, it struck me that most of my conversations with him while growing up was about his day at the hospital. From curious cases to surgical procedures to how our public health systems function, I am grateful to have had a father who was patient with my barrage of questions. Later when he had an early onset of #ParkonsonsDisease, much of our conversations drifted to the disease and its care giving aspects. I will cherish the memories he has left behind and will forever be thankful to him and my mother for inculcating the values of kindness, compassion, and service in their kids.

Our 50th wedding anniversary on March 27. Half a century..This past year has been perhaps the most challenging I’ve had . Surgery in April followed by three months of chemotherapy and radiation, with family as strength. I’m feeling good, energetic and back to my normal, frenetic routine now.. traveling, speaking, writing and my beloved @SouthSymphony . I’ve learnt that this fight is the one war we must all fight to win. No declarations of truce! With forbearance, with faith, always with hope in your heart.
