In Germany, finding an apartment online is brutal. 100s of people will apply for 1 room, within minutes. So I stopped applying online and stuck my face on a tree. Immediately got a text from a landlord. When somethings not working, try the opposite. h/t @tferriss

🇵🇱 Poland is unanimously celebrated now as a fast growing, beautiful and safe country with few of the problems Western Europe is now having with crime But one remaining issue is the air quality especially in the winter Its air is worse than China now Apparently the problem is mostly households still heating with wood or coal but also many coal power plants

@levelsio The air was horrible this winter. My roomate had a 2 month cough after we spent less than one week there. Also the Carbon monoxide monitor started beeping in our house after I opened up the window for fresh air

My Chinese listening practice is the spiritual opposite of doomscrolling. Singular focus. Unbroken Flow state. Deeply meaningful. 100% tied to my future visions. Yesterday, I ran an experiment. I spent nearly an hour on Twitter, jumping chaotically across images, videos, hot takes. After, I wrote down how my mind felt: Frazzled Scattered Restless Noisy Unsettled Jumpy Shallow Dissatisfied Then, immediately after, I spent one hour immersed in focused Chinese listening. Eyes closed, no distractions, trying as hard as I possibly could to understand each word. After I wrote how my mind felt: Still Calm Tranquil Glad Fully content Brimming with potential Aware of the possible Satisfied Within one hour my inner state had been transformed, all thanks to where I pointed my attention. Attention allocation is a choice. We make choices – consciously or subconsciously – then inherent the consequences of those choices. I fragment my attention all the time. It’s a daily battle. But Chinese gives me a singular object of focus at which to aim my attention, my beam of life whose worth is beyond description.

When I lived in Madrid, I met tons of LATAM immigrants. A bunch of them had already gone to the US before coming to Spain! And, I shit you not, most of them decided the US was so disorderly and unsafe that they came to Madrid where work is insanely scarce, salaries are low, and prospects are not good - all to escape the darkness of the modern American metro
Anthony LaMesa@ajlamesa

This also helps to explain why Democrats are losing immigrants. If you visit CDMX, Guadalajara, Quito, Lima, or Medellin, transit may be crowded, but it is orderly, policed, clean, and safe. It is jarring (disappointing, upsetting) to emigrate to the "richest country on Earth" and encounter the Subway, CTA, or MARTA.

Went to a well known techno club in Madrid last night. 2 of my little sister’s 6 friends got their phones snatched out of their purse. For one of them it was the second time in a year. The pickpockets come, buy tickets and go hunting. Then insta turn off the find my iPhone location and it’s gone. Unbelievable haha

So let's say hypothetically that you're in the Bavarian Countryside. You see a Church. Looks alright but nothing spectacular. You decide to enter

Modern luxury apartments in Tier 2 cities are fascinating microcosms of millennial culture. The furniture always looks like it came out of a WeWork. Many amenities for dogs. Attempts to build “community” by earnest property managers that fall flat because nobody actually wants to know their neighbor. Gyms that are suspiciously used at 11 am. Quiet elevators where everyone stares at their phone. No children. If you’ve been in one, you know exactly what you mean.
