@LudensLudonauta Thanks for the detailed info! You're right. It makes a lot of sense to have a body of text linking to your game. Especially a quality dev log! Think I should consider that as well..

I'm starting an "Anti Social Media Marketing for Indies" movement. Way less expensive than creating content for X, Instagram, Reddit, TikTok, or YouTube. The thesis? Traffic on Steam and itch.io is massively direct or organic, not referral from social media.

@LudensLudonauta Ah, that makes sense. I was thinking about the game itself. Game itself is hard because keywords are either super specific, like the game backstory. Or super generic, like the game genre.

@DeadbugProjects Think about words that people may search that will lead to your content. For instance, a funny one In Brazil my Brazilian channel, adding "godote tutorial" on top of "godot tutorial" brought 17% traffic from YouTube searches Because in Brazil we don't end words with consonants

@BecomingCaptain That's a server. Setup perforce, or use it to host a VM that builds you game that you can archive when you start working on a new title, or setup an endpoint to collect telemetry from your players. Laptops make good servers because they're more energy efficient than desktops.

@LoneVaultWander 1. Give them the keys. 2. Wait 24 hours. 3. Burn the keys through Steam. You have now preloaded a negative review for a key reseller posing as a content creator.

“Hi, my name is X and we have a Steam curator group Y. Your game <<MOUSE: P.I. For Hire>> caught our eye and is a perfect fit for our audience. Could we please have 2-4 keys and in exchange, we will write a review.” 🥴

@DeadbugProjects The game looks amazing, but the screen glitch effect is a bit too much for me. It interferes with the overall gameplay experience.

I’m making a video game solo right now and I have to remind myself of the following: The number of wishlists I have is not tied to my self worth. The game is not for everyone, some will love it, others will hate it and that’s okay. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Burnout is the biggest danger of not finishing. Community and fan enthusiasm are big motivating factors in keeping up with development. It’s important to stay engaged What do you tell yourself to help you stay sane? #gamedev #indiedev

@DeadbugProjects @karl_zylinski No it's like wanting to have a 64p shooter that uses projectiles and server auth hit reg. Then testing shows the server can't handle x number of projectiles. Then you through more resources at the server, but the engine can't use but so much per tick, soooo....

I read the replies to this post and it is fascinating how misunderstood the poster gets. It's not that you must be derivative and do what everyone else does. It's that the mechanics you put in won't work well with all other mechanics, so you are constricted.
Tynan Sylvester@TynanSylvester

It's underappreciated how little freedom you have while designing a game. You can't just make what you want. You have to to make what works, and you don't get to choose that.

@karl_zylinski Well sure. But then those two contradicting realities are constraints borne out of your freedom to think up as many realities as you want 😊 But yeah, I think I get it... - I know it's hard, but also very rewarding when it works.

@DeadbugProjects What you don't realize is that you can create two contradicting realities within the game and then you must resolve the contradiction. It can be extremely hard when you have many such parameters.

@dallao_porra Just continue building. Every game is also a stepping stone to the next game. But keep releasing and keep pushing. As long as you know your game is good it'll all compound in the end 💪 It's a marathon. You'll find your audience eventually.

Alright, I’m on the hunt for some indie gems to feature in our "Indie Games of the Week spotlight". I want to shine the light on: • Smaller accounts • Solo devs • Small indie dev teams • Games that deserve way more attention If you’re building something awesome, drop it below. Last weeks spotlight for reference👇
Lockie@Lockie_Glizzy

Indie Games of The Week Spotlight! This week I asked the algorithm for games that were niche, strange, ambitious… something different. Safe to say - the algo delivered. Most of these games are by solo devs too. If anything catches your eye, show the devs some love - like, comment, reshare and follow. That sort of support is everything for indie devs trying to build visibility. @TwoPillarsGames - TERRORSTORM: Ground Zero @GreyAlien - Forbidden Solitaire @FangstormGame - Fangstorm @PixelDripGames - Anomalous Cleaning Detail @HereComesSwarm - Here Comes The Swarm @shaderbunny - DAWN ONE @thoboone - Time To Wake Up @nohost_dev - BREKEKEKEX
