You are the one the world holds responsible for the security and safety of the home. You are the one who does the rigorous work in and outside the home. You are the electrician, the Doctor, the plumber, the security man, the one with the big memory never to forget birthdays and every little detail or you face trouble and nagging or silent treatment. You are the one who bears responsibility for her family difficulties. It is not written but it is expected. On bed, you do the work during mekwe. You are the one who has to adjust to her body language/mood when she wants a child. At best, you BOTH want a child and you BOTH have sex. When the child is born, it is “HER CHILD” and if she gets upset, she takes HER CHILD/CHILDREN with her (if they are actually yours anyway). Then if she doesn’t leave with the children, she reminds you of all she went through “to make you a father” while all you had to do was NOTHING. Just a penis. She carried for 9 months. Pushed. Breastfed. Had insomnia. Body changes. All that sacrifice just to make you a Dad cos it was only you who wanted a child and wanted to marry. She did you a favour for which you owe her your life and servitude from eternity unto all eternity. If you talk too much, she gaslights you, waits till the children grow up and make them see how “absent” you were in their upbringing and she, the heroine. Possible loneliness and aloneness in your old age. A futile journey you really didn’t have to embark on.
