The woke will go down harder than the unwoke. Because some of the unwoke will have each other's backs. But the woke will tear each other limb from limb. Eventually they came for Robespierre too. And the monster always returns to the castle.

@FilmLadd It was until a bizarre jungle primary scenario meant the Dems needed him out.

@neoavatara Then it would behoove @Pontifex not to follow the path of Bill Kristol, Jen Rubin, Tucker, Avenatti, Stelter, etc. Noone other than Trump has ever gained from conflict with Trump. Most lose their minds & values, and the respect others had for them and their institutions.

This is clueless. The Pope, along with the Church, has been doing it's own thing for thousands of years. Trump is a moment in time that they wouldn't waste much thought on, by comparison. He is no threat to them.
Steve Deace@SteveDeaceShow

At least a 97% chance this woke first American pope was specifically timed to try and check Trumpian nationalistic fervor on issues like immigration, as well as Trump’s willingness to deploy our unipolar power.

I don't know. Of course @Pontifex is making many political statements, which many Catholics (and others) will view as deluded and naive, and he's publicly criticizing politicians half the country voted for. When he says he doesn't want to debate Trump most of us understand that as he wants to do a drive by attack and not engage with a response. I think most of us have as much respect for this Pope's views on politics as we have for this president's views on Catholic theology. Which is a pity because Pope John Paul II was one of last century's greatest men. In his case tough times made a strong, courageous, decent and wonderful man. This Pope's political acts may cause more long term damage to the Catholic Church. Most people will be over the president's words against the Pope by next week. We know the president can be nasty, impulsive, and abusive. Some people expect better from the Pope.

Clearly he won this round.

GOP and/or MAGA operatives still have the midterms as a reason for standing behind Trump. The real fun is going to come after the midterms when the 2028 presidential primaries start. Does MAGA continue to exist as a unified unit when Trump is no longer either President or someone-who-can-become-President? Will Trump disavowal be standard in the primaries? It’s gonna be fun to find out.

@CoreyWriting That's a nice luxury belief for outsiders. Jews need to do the right thing and not be discouraged and changed by the hate.

@bonchieredstate His Hamas deal was very successful. All the remaining hostages were released, and Israel remains in half of Gaza until Hamas disarms.

Lots of factors. Probably our parents generation is more self-centric and want to spend their retirement on themselves. They are also older than previous generations because we’re having kids later.
Nina@NinaPanickssery

Genuinely curious—why don’t more people use their own parents/kid’s grandparents for childcare as opposed to daycare/preschool/nannies (which seem more common)? Is it common for boomer grandparents to show disinterest in their grandchildren?

@GilR What gives the hitter any baylis over the ball b'chlal? He was never koine it! Clearly, the chazaka goes back to the previous baalim, the pitcher. This means it's b'chezkas reshus of the fielding team. Poshut.
