@HeilSpaceKaren @JCChristopher Or more accurately, "A woman driving a Tesla almost added two more to the 3,000 deaths that will occur this month caused by humans manually driving non-Tesla automobiles, when she disengaged Self-driving and manually steered her vehicle into a barrier. "

Is it just me, or did the FUD meter go up significantly today? I've had accounts I have never seen in my life, many verified, come into my posts, reposts, quote posts, all of them. And all related to Tesla FSD and saying it's never going to work or scale. It will never be done with vision only, it can ONLY be Lidar. They have blood on their hands. We will NEVER eliminate 4 trillion manual miles driven in this country unless it is vision-only in a $25k vessel that can scale. These folks were also part of the Johnson and Nixon administrations and were full steam ahead on Vietnam and Cambodia...

@NotATeslaApp It's telling that the video is less than four seconds long. Nothing shown is on FSD. I'd love to see the 8-second version. What was going on before the driver made the mistake? I know most of the time I take over, in hindsight I shouldn't have.

Musk confirms that the Cyebrtruck was on FSD, but was disengaged 4 seconds prior to the crash. What are your thoughts? Should this count as a crash on FSD? Tesla typically counts an FSD crash if FSD was disengaged in the last 4 seconds.

'TERRIFYING': Dashcam video shows the moment a Tesla Cybertruck, allegedly operating in self-driving mode, nearly sent a Houston mom and her infant off a bridge before violently crashing into an overpass barrier. The woman claims she suffered multiple injuries from the incident and is now suing the automaker for $1 million.

Not saying this is accurate or not, but most of the comments sound more like sports fans or religious faithful that are cheering that it is or overly defensive that it’s not possible. How about we actually get a full investigation & the facts before making a judgement? 🤷‍♂️

Only once have I waited to charge past 70%, and that's when I was heading into Glacier National Park and wanted extra buffer. I spent 5 minutes per week fueling my gas car and another 90 minutes per year on oil changes. Even with going Wisconsin to Florida every year and Wisconsin to Kentucky as well, I spend less time per year charging my Tesla than I spent putting dead dinosaurs in my Sonata hybrid.

Lots of talk of new BYD EV charging specs. I can charge my Tesla Model 3 at a super charger from low to ‘how-much-I-need-to-get-home’ in the time it takes me to walk into Buc-ee’s, take a leak, get an iced tea, and walk back to my car.

@killtonyfan @clawrence I'll do 10% to 60% in the time it takes me to make a pit stop, then get back on the road. Milwaukee to Louisville, one 15 minute stop and one 9 minute stop. I've done it multiple times.

@clawrence It takes 40 mins to go from 20% - 80%. If I am at a supercharger why would just not do that, why just go from 20% to 40% which will be quick. Fact is supercharging is slow compared to gas cars at a supercharger. Tesla not ideal for long road trips

Tesla’s decision to focus on pure vision will go down as the most important strategic decision in their history, and it’s crazy that so few people have grasped that yet. Just go take a ride in both. The Tesla is smooth and human like. Once you’ve experienced it, you’ll start to notice how slow and jerky the Waymo is. The reason the Tesla drives better is because of the massive dataset enabled by computer vision sensors in every car. To the extent LIDAR is useful, you can always layer that on top of the pure vision system that is already safe enough to drive the car on its own. You’ll mop the floor with anyone who requires multiple sensor modalities and can’t drive if any of them go down. Waymo is giving millions of rides, but they’ve driven about 200 million miles. Tesla Self-Driving has been used for 8.5 billion miles, making it by far the most used self-driving software in the world. They’re also now operating without a driver in Austin. The goal isn’t millions, it’s trillions of miles traveled a year. Good luck getting there with a car that is 3x more expensive and has yet to turn a profit. Good luck scaling to South America, Asia, and Africa with a car that costs $75,000 and requires you to shoot out laser beams constantly. Less is more. Layer on whatever additional sensor modalities you want to the extent it improves anything, but people don’t realize how powerful it is to have a single end to end model that can drive more safely than a human even if all the sensors go out except the cameras. If the cameras go out you can’t drive the car anyway, even with LIDAR, because you need to be able to see traffic lights, signs, etc. Computer vision is both necessary and sufficient for fully autonomous driving. Adding anything extra as a requirement just holds back the technology from scaling and stopping many preventable deaths and injuries.
Tenobrus@tenobrus

tesla's decision to point blank refuse to touch lidar has proven to be one of the most insane self owns of any technology company ever. they easily have the research talent, and waymo has proved they could be doing millions of fully autonomous rides. at this point it's a choice

My CEO has a lot battle scars. After selling PayPal to eBay, he netted $180 million and then bet it ALL. 1/ $100 million into SpaceX 2/ $70 million into Tesla Then 2008 hit him hard. Three rockets blew up. Tesla was bleeding $ millions every month in the financial crisis. He was getting divorced and basically broke and in debt. He woke up the Sunday before Christmas thinking he was on the verge of a nervous breakdown… “…it seemed pretty dark.” But the fourth Falcon rocket finally made it to orbit, which if it wasn’t successful, SpaceX would go bankrupt. Soon after, NASA called with a $1.6 billion contract. Elon couldn’t even hold the phone… just a simple “I love you guys!” And Tesla investors closed a round on Christmas Eve. He got SpaceX and Tesla out of hell by the skin of their teeth. Those battle scars built the future we’re living in today. This is a reminder to NEVER give up.

President Trump gave the world the Artemis Program, and NASA and our partners have the plan to deliver. We will standardize architecture where possible, add missions and accelerate flight rate, execute in an evolutionary way, and safely return American astronauts to the Moon, this time to stay. This is the NASA that once changed the world. This is the NASA that will do it again.

I am not focused on anything other than what the statistics presented says. FSD is safer than a human driver, but that is not the point. It is still possible to be involved in accidents. If there is the 5 second rule of Tesla still counting an accident as FSD related, when it was just on, then this creates a bit of fuzzy statistic points.
