“The debate has ended” but you, a Messi fan is here telling us who is holding Portugal back and who is not.

@RebeI_RL @quetzalcoa14 @NobletStrength Says who? I have never seen players give up on a season in American sports. But I have seen Premier League teams pack it in and go on an early holiday once they know they aren't getting relegated. There's incentive to finish 17th and nothing else.

The thing about Pro/Rel vs none is not that it doesn't punish losing. It's that it punishes differently. In Pro/Rel the fans of the team are punished by having to follow their team in lower divisions. Without it the players and coaching staff are punished by being fired/released.

Mauricio Pochettino thinks American sports reward losers because there's no relegation threat for teams and they just fire coaches instead

@starsnstripesfc Not if your 1-0 loss is to the team you’re tied with while the 2 blowouts are teams on less points. Translative property doesn’t work in sports. H2H is the most important thing. Besides, if we win tomorrow, and then get at least a draw against turkey, it doesn’t matter.

So apparently FIFA changed the tiebreaker rules. Head to head takes priority over GD now… We will need Turkiye to draw vs Paraguay or get a draw vs Turkiye. Kind of dumb a team with +6 could lose a group to +2…
🇺🇸@starsnstripesfc

Really hope Pulisic is fit for tomorrow. I’m confident if we beat Australia, we will top the group. Might even be able to rest guys vs 🇹🇷 depending how their game goes vs Paraguay. Even if they win 3-0 they’d still only be +1

@RebeI_RL @Thony_0812 Those are all yellow or potentially red cards. Its better that they’re all called properly rather than all of them being called wrong. Pulisic has a wrap on the leg thats being hit studs up in this photo during the US’s latest practice session. Insane that this is being allowed.

🚨 VAR CONTROVERSY 🚨 If that challenge was made by any ordinary player, many fans believe it would've been a straight red card without hesitation. Instead, play continued and VAR saw nothing worthy of a dismissal. The biggest problem isn't whether you support Argentina or Algeria—it's consistency. Football fans just want the same rules applied to everyone, regardless of the name on the back of the shirt. ⚽ Same challenge. ⚽ Same contact. ⚽ Different outcome? What do you think: Red card or correct decision by VAR? 🤔👇 #ARGDZA #WorldCup2026 #VAR #FootballTwitter #Argentina #Algeria

With Messi, there always seems to be some controversy or questionable refereeing decisions involved. He should have been shown a red card earlier, yet he ended up scoring a hat-trick. At times, it feels impossible to compete when everything appears to favor FIFA’s golden boy.

Let’s be honest, if that was another player and not Messi, he would have been showed a red card or even a yellow card. But surprise, surprise, nothing was given. I also think it was because of the referee. If it was another referee, the card would have been given. And, there is a high probability the direction of the match would have changed. Anyways, let’s celebrate his hat-trick 😏

🚨 Zlatan Ibrahimović Defends Messi Amid Red Card Controversy 🗣️: "People screaming for a red card clearly do not know the rules of football. According to IFAB, stepping on a player's Achilles tendon is not automatically a sending-off. The referee must judge the level of force used and whether the challenge endangered the opponent's safety. A red card is for excessive force or serious foul play. This incident was neither. For me, it is not even a yellow card. Football is a contact sport. Every little touch is not a crime. The loudest people crying for a red card are Ronaldo fans. They spend more time praying for Messi's downfall than enjoying football. Every tournament they wait for something, anything, that can damage Messi's reputation. The truth is simple: if that challenge was committed by Ronaldo, they would call it passion and fighting spirit. Because it was Messi, they want a red card and a five-match ban. Ronaldo is finished, and that reality hurts them. Messi is still the name everyone talks about, so they keep searching for ways to bring him down. This red-card campaign is just another desperate attempt."
