The President’s unauthorized war of choice in Iran has fueled global chaos and driven a meteoric rise in energy prices. Instead of building real energy security, this Administration has eased sanctions on Russia and accepted continued Iranian oil exports while traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains paralyzed. In other words, we are funding the world’s largest exporters of global instability and chaos just to maintain a semblance of energy stability.

In 2027, the UN’s International Telecommunication Union will host the World Radiocommunication Conference in Shanghai to review and revise the international treaty governing the global rules on spectrum use by wireless and satellite providers. Decisions there will set the stage for the next generation of wireless, satellite and lunar communications technologies.  At today’s Communications & Technology subcommittee hearing, I joined @EnergyCommerce Democrats to stress the need for the U.S. to have one unified voice at the conference to secure America’s dominance in information and communications technology.

Happy 101st birthday, Fergie Reid!  As co-founder of the Richmond Crusade for Voters and the first Black man elected to the Virginia General Assembly since Reconstruction, you blazed the path for me and so many others serving in elected office in Virginia.  Thank you!

When @RepMcClellan was sworn in as the first Black woman elected to Congress to represent Virginia, she took her oath using the Bible where her father kept his poll tax receipt.  This week, the Senate is trying to pass the SAVE America Act, a bill that would drag us backward and threaten Americans’ ability to vote—just like poll taxes did only decades ago. We must stop any effort that would make it harder for American citizens to participate in our democracy.

Dreamers contribute to the strength and vitality of this nation. They deserve fairness, dignity and due process under the law. Instead, the Trump Administration has deported at least 174 of them with no accountability or transparency. In today’s Energy Subcommittee hearing, I focused on the intersection between electric grid reliability and national security. Over the past year, the Trump Administration has undermined clean energy projects and tax credits that would make the grid more resilient to the current supply disruptions. Now, the Administration is funding the world’s largest exporters of global instability and chaos just to maintain a semblance of energy stability during its unnecessary and unauthorized war in Iran. @Energycommerce Democrats are focused on getting clean energy on the grid as quickly as possible to meet growing demand.

Suffragette, public servant and artist Adèle Clark was a fervent changemaker. She co-founded the leading women’s suffrage group in Virginia, served in educational and government bodies supporting women’s education and art, and worked alongside activists in Richmond to protect Black female voters.

Just steps from the State Capitol, the Virginia Women’s Monument serves as a testament to the incredible impact of the women on our Commonwealth. #womenshistorymonth The monument features the names of hundreds of outstanding Virginian women and the statues of eleven women who led and uplifted their communities. 🧵
