How did athletes in previous decades get better without their timing gates, jump devices, and force plates?

The biggest competitive advantage at the high school level right now is nutrition. Big time programs are investing through boosters or grants to feed their athletes throughout the day. I think people would be shocked how many kids don’t eat breakfast, and not always by choice

@Challenger_ST 'get strong' way too low on this list. Especially if we're talking about younger athletes. Everyone can get stronger to help them perform in various ways, not everyone can become 'fast enough' to play whatever sport / event / position they 'think' they are capable of.

If I was a really slow athlete… & wanted to get significantly faster in the next 365 days, here’s what I’d do: 1. Sprint 2-3x per week 2. Heavy loaded 10-12 yard sprints 3. Hill sprints 4. 40-50 yard sprints/“flying,” sprints 5. Vertical jumps 6. Broad jumps 7. Get strong

@coachcris_ @StrengthDebates I think he was referring to what specific things should they do while lifting weights. They should lift like a 12 year old with a very low training age and then supplement that lifting with the stuff you are suggesting.

I train my 12 yr old as a baseball player bc that’s the sport he plays. He needs exercises that reduce his injury risk, such as ArmCare exercises, and anti rotational stability. Not every 12 year old needs those. Neglecting those types of exercises is why we have so many injuries in baseball.

How would you program/train for a 12 year old baseball/softball player?? The answer is easy, first thing you want to do is realize he or she is not a baseball/softball player. He or she is 12. Train them as a 12 year old

@georgewrighster Teachers must give hand written tests, make kids do hand written work during class, make kids give presentations in front of the class, etc.

Anybody who is a parent or educator, please tell me what you think about this. I have asked myself the same question. How can we incorporate AI into classwork so students are actually learning things? They know how to find answers but not check them for accuracy.
Dustin@r0ck3t23

A father just asked the most dangerous question in education right now. His 16-year-old overslept for school. His reaction surprised even himself. Camillo: “Does any of this really matter at all right now? Like, what are you even doing?” He can’t say it out loud to his kid. But he can’t stop thinking it. Camillo spent years being strict about attendance and grades. The traditional playbook. Show up. Study hard. Get the degree. Build the future. Then he watched what AI is doing to that playbook in real time. Camillo: “Every single kid in America is using AI for every single assignment and every single test.” Not a vocal minority. Not the tech-savvy outliers. Camillo: “I don’t think people realize. It’s close to 100% of every high school and college student using AI for close to everything that they do.” The student gets a math worksheet. Takes a photo. Uploads it to Gemini. Asks it to show the work. Done. If 100% of students are using AI to pass the test, the test isn’t measuring intelligence anymore. It’s measuring willingness to comply with a system that stopped being relevant before it had time to notice. Camillo: “The world is moving so quickly, and I can’t even imagine the stuff that you’re learning and how slowly it…” He doesn’t finish the sentence. He doesn’t need to. Curriculums take years to update. AI is rewriting the global economy in real time. The gap between what school teaches and what the world requires is now unbridgeable. And it’s widening every single day. The kids aren’t failing the system. The system is failing the kids. Slowly. In public. With everyone watching and nobody saying it out loud. Camillo just did.

@CoachRC23 I worked a D1 camp one summer and during testing we were told to knock .2 seconds off of every kid's handheld time. Why? Because they heard another D1 camp was doing the same thing and didn't want to be school to give a kid a slower time.

This isn’t a kid problem This is a HS Coach, Trainer, Rivals, Under Armor, etc camp problem 🤥 The reason kids think they run 4.4 is bc their coaches / trainers tell them that It’s the adults who are lying to kids
Jeremy Crabtree@jeremycrabtree

"I run a 4.4," says every HS recruit ever. 🧢 Peep the average LASER times at the #NFLCombine since 2020: WR: 4.52s CB: 4.53s S: 4.57s RB: 4.59s LB: 4.71s EDGE: 4.72s TE: 4.76s QB: 4.81s DT: 5.05s OL: 5.26s The eye in the sky don’t lie. ⏱️🏃‍♂️💨

@StrengthDebates Based on the video you put up a while ago about how to do your method with large groups, I figured I would need 13 racks (if one kid was absent!).

@Mr_davisj Agreed. I do something similar, but with 6 movements: Squat, single leg, hinge, press, pulldown, row Core is worked in between. This type of approach is great especially with a high school population.

Movement pattern program design Most program design tends to be based on methods or exercises. Back squat, bench press, rdl, etc. A more effective & creative approach is training patterns: Squat Lunge Push/Pull Hinge Core This offers more flexibility

Coaching 1 team at a time is easy. Fill a weight room with 15 HS bball girls in season, 15 HS boys soccer off-season, and 15 middle school boys and see how you do. They don’t cover that on the CSCS👀

Football coaches - you’re taking over an average HS program. What’s are three things you need to happen to be successful? (Can’t say recruit/get better players)

Speed development vs. sport specific training. If your training is always with a stick in your hand or ball at your feet etc… You will always be going at sub maximal speeds and intensities. Put the stick down. Be an athlete. Pick the stick up. Become a better athlete.

@StrengthDebates Camps are a MAJOR part of the process for most young athletes; coaches want to see you in person. The absolute elite of the elite can get recruited off their film / stats, but it's very rare.

One of the reasons we film/grade Dawn Patrol is for testing discipline when tired. You’re told to touch the red line at least & in that sprint you make a choice - do it right or do it wrong & hope I don’t get caught. The standard is the standard. #WinterIsComing again tomorrow…
