@AutismCapital They ignore 250k kids getting raped by grooming gangs, but pretend like they're tryna protect kids when they just wanna force adults to hand over ID to use social media. The UK has also arrested more people for online hate speech than any other country. More fascist than China.

The United Kingdom is going to announce additional restrictions in July on VPN usage. This is ON TOP OF the social media restrictions and mandated online identity verifications. It's over, UK. You sold out your own society. Absolute tragedy. Very sad.

@CognitiveMetric @cremieuxrecueil I didn't conflate the two, but now I'm curious how u normed the tests. Range restriction attenuates r IF the same relationship persists beyond the restricted range. U don't know if it does. Also, there may be other forms of sampling bias beyond selecting for high-ability people

Your conclusion does not follow, you're conflating norming with validity. A high ability sample would be a concern if we were deriving population norms from it (which we weren't). The old GRE to IQ conversions weren't derived from this sample, they were derived from ETS population data. The convergent validity analysis is asking whether VISA behaves like an established verbal ability measure. Range restriction generally attenuates correlations, yet VISA and GRE-V still correlate around .80 uncorrected.

@CognitiveMetric @cremieuxrecueil Got it, the Y-axis is IQ computed from GRE percentiles, not raw scores. In that case, the data is even more ridiculous. You have 1 sample below 100, but many between 145 and 160. Even if this is real data, the insane amount of sampling bias renders any conclusion invalid.

We used the old GRE, not the modern one, which used a 200-800 scale until 2011. We removed the artificial ceiling and floor then rescaled these into IQ using population level data from ETS. Keep in mind, the ceiling varies by forms and most forms don't hit 900, the highest V is we've found is 870, Q is 860, and A is 900.

@iScienceLuvr Nah, putting PhD in your bio is cringe af, especially if you call it "Ph.D." with the periods. However, you get a pass cuz you got it at 19, which is impressive.

(read to the end) As you may have heard, I have a Ph.D. 🤣 My Ph.D. (in Biomedical Engineering) gave me very valuable research experience and learned a lot about being a good researcher and managing research collaborations, skillsets that are serving me well at my startup @SophontAI. I am glad I got the opportunity to work on impactful research problems during my Ph.D. (applying AI to new microscopy technologies to improve cancer diagnostics and treatment decisions). I was working on generative AI in my PhD, earlier than 99.9% of people here even knew what it was. I put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into my research, with many hardships along the way. I try (with limited success unfortunately) to use Twitter as a professional platform, which is why I have Ph.D. in my name. If you ask Grok, even it agrees that there's nothing wrong with saying Ph.D. in your account name especially in a professional setting. I do agree that in general it's stupid to overly focus on it, but it's not like I make anyone irl call me Dr. Tanishq or anything. Of course I don't deny there are tons of frauds who have PhDs and academia has its issues. But that doesn't mean a PhD is completely useless for everyone or has no signal, especially in highly technical fields. I don't even think everyone should do a Ph.D. For me it made sense since it allowed me to more easily do research in an interdisciplinary environment while getting solid mentorship. PhDs are often really good opportunities to progress in life sciences careers (although good alternatives are starting to arise now). However, if you're doing pure AI, a PhD may not always be a good investment of your time, and worthwhile AI research can be done in a variety of ways outside of a PhD program. At my startup we hire both PhDs and non-PhDs as researchers, and our non-PhDs are making tremendous contributions to our company! Many of the best researchers that I respect a lot never did a PhD. If you want to hate me simply for the fact that I worked hard to get a PhD and I indicate that on a profile I mostly use for professional purposes, so be it! I am proud of the hard work I put into it and I will not be ashamed of it :)

Wait… The shooter, Cole Thomas Allen, went to Caltech, one of the hardest, most elite universities in the world. Only extremely brilliant students get in. He was a NASA intern in 2014, working on AI models for mapping planets. And now he’s… a school teacher? From rocket scientist-level work to this? Something feels very off. Could this be an MKUltra-style program? Programmed asset? The trajectory makes zero sense.

It's astonishing that you, a world leader who many respected for standing up to an illegal attack on your country, now support an illegal attack on another country. It completely kills your credibility. Right now. Iran is Ukraine. You may not like to hear that but that is a fact
Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський@ZelenskyyUa

It is unfortunate that the UN Security Council has once again failed to demonstrate effectiveness and act decisively in the face of such a global threat as the Iranian regime's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. No one should be allowed to block such globally significant sea lanes or undermine the security of dozens of nations through terrorist attacks against the freedom of navigation. We faced a similar challenge in the Black Sea when the Russians attempted to block our ports and civilian shipping—Russia was trying to suffocate our economy. And we found a way to solve that problem through decisive action, not inaction. Now, we see a similar problem on a global scale. The Strait of Hormuz must remain open to all vessels that sustain vital economy lifelines and maintain normal international trade. Countries in the region have spoken clearly on this, and we support the aspirations of the people of the Middle East and the Gulf for peace. Peace and security in this region directly impact stability, market predictability, and the cost of living in every single country. Such problems and this war must not be prolonged. The world needs a functional UNSC that acts more decisively to resolve acute security challenges of global magnitude.

@CandyClaws2 @boxbarryhearn @GilbertPimbury @jbarro A high SAT score is not correlated with IQ because the majority of high scorers are nerds who spend months studying & getting coached. If you look at the subset of 1530+ scorers who got that with just a few days of self-study (2 practice tests or less), they'll all have high IQs.

@boxbarryhearn @GilbertPimbury @jbarro First of all, the test is empirically shown to not be g-loaded. I have friends with WAIS tested IQs of 110 who have 1530+ SAT scores. Everyone I know that went to a reasonable school (Clavicular would fall into this category) would find a 1500+ SAT score to be normal.

@KeoweeTha @ArthurMorganTX @allenanalysis Just looking at 2000s onward, Mississippi had a Democrat governor from 2000 to 2003. Arkansas had a Democrat governor from 2008 to 2015. West Virginia had a Democrat governor from 2001 to 2020. These are the 3 poorest states in the union. "Historically been red for decades" 🤡

I wish conservatives got this straight: Without blue states, America would look like a failing country; patchy internet, collapsing schools, no tech, no medicine, no future. Red states cash the federal checks. Blue states write them. You don’t fund the nation. You bleed it dry. The math is simple: the places screaming the loudest bring the least to the table.

@elonmusk You spent $25 mil trying to get a single Republican judge elected in Wisconsin, a state that elected Trump a few months prior, but lost by over 10% to a Democrat that gives child rapists 4 year prison sentences. Nobody believes you have the ability to buy out every primary.

Waiting for Dutch authorities and then the EU to approve. Very frustrating and hurts the safety of people in Europe, as driving with advanced Autopilot on results in four times fewer injuries! Please ask your governing authorities to accelerate making Tesla safer in Europe.
