The 2025 AP English Language and Composition Exam scores: 5: 13%; 4: 28%; 3: 33%; 2: 16%: 1: 10% Multiple-Choice Section Students performed well across the range of skills this section measures, but especially on Skill Category 8: Style – Writing. An impressive 37% of students answered all of these questions right. The most challenging MCQs were related to Skill Category 5, understanding the line of reasoning and organization within a text. 7% of students answered each of these questions correctly. Free-Response Section Set 1: apcentral.collegeboard.org/media/pdf/ap25… Set 2: apcentral.collegeboard.org/media/pdf/ap25… In the Set 1 essay questions, students scored highest on Q3, the evidence-based argument on the present moment, with 22% of students earning 5+ points. On the Set 2 essay questions, students scored highest on Q1, the synthesis of sources related to mapping software / GPS devices, on which 24% of students earned 5+ points. The most difficult essay question on both Set 1 and Set 2 was Q2, the rhetorical analysis. ~17% of students earned 5+ points. AP English Language and Composition had an Evidence-Based Standard Setting this year to determine more precisely than in the past which AP students are demonstrating the content knowledge and skills that meet expectations for college credit and placement. The 2021 standard setting used a panel-based approach, with 15 professors estimating what the AP “pass rate” should be. The 2025 standard setting utilized technology to gather input from an exponentially larger set of experts: 773 professors from 524 colleges. OK, I’ve got the final 9 subjects’ results to share today. These subjects took longer than the others, since after the AP Readings, each of these subjects was also scheduled for a standard setting – the process that determines the number of points that convert to AP scores of 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. (All other subjects used standard equating processes to maintain the standards set in prior years.) I’ll prioritize releasing the score distributions for each of the remaining subjects between now and 4 pm ET, and in parallel, my colleagues and I will prepare an overview providing more details about the standard setting process and results for those who are interested, which we’ll then post around 4 pm ET today on allaccess.collegeboard.org

@theDRAMAgoat1 Our system rounds anything .5 or higher. Any more than that and I make them earn the bump.

Controversial I don't ever bump a kid's grade. They got an 89.9%, an A is a 90%. They should've done the work and/or quality of work to get them a 90% I use rubrics for everything.

I've broken up many fights over the years, including some wild ones. No matter who was at fault, the first thing I always say after the fight is over is "Are you ok?" What's the one question I've never been asked by an admin after breaking up a fight? "Are you ok?"

@FixingEducation Same! Just knocked out my entire year of AP Lang for next year and the first semester of 11th grade English. But guess what, they’re in MY playbook.

As a teacher, I don’t mind at all, writing lesson plans. In fact, I often create them in advance because I’m a bit Type A and then adjust them as needed. HOWEVER, why in the world do I have to submit them in a specific format to an admin who never looks at them?

@teachcrap Ours are exempt the entire day on any day they take a test. As it should be. They’re either nervous for an afternoon test or brain mush after a morning test.

Why can’t the AP testers go home early/come in late? Those tests are exhausting. They shouldn’t have to go to class like nothing happened/is happening.
