Games need to start appealing to niches more than general audiences in order to have any sort of distinctive characteristic. Friction points are not an inherent indicator of bad design, because a friction generates heat and warmth which in turn creates attachment. A frictionless game remains cold, featureless, with nothing to hold onto.

And tlou2 is still one of naughty dogs most successful games in terms of critical acclaim, sales and popularity. Which is why naughty dog and Neil druckmann keeps getting blank checks from Sony to do and make whatever they want. If tlou2 was a flop naughty dog would not have gotten to make intergalactic which has a budget of 250+mil, and is there biggest game ever.
