It seems to act as a sort of "filter" and disinfectant to corruption. Analogous to Jesus and the lepers.

@SonofManwithus Once you are saved, you feel compelled to bring as much glory to God as possible. The Bible's instructions on "works" let you know how to do that. Coincidentally, you can then "know them by their works."

I need some help. I know the writings of the new Testament say we are saved by grace not works but..... There are many passages about repentance and an expectation of following and serving. Even the parable of the ten virgins indicate some believers will miss out. So what's the deal?

For something to be funny, there has to be an element of truth to it. When a comedy page targets the same religion over and over and over and over, never diversifying, viewers start to realize it’s all just thinly veiled visceral hatred, and the “jokes” become cringeworthy.

“Follow Jesus, not the Pope” is peak Protestant cope. If you really wanted a personal relationship with Jesus, you’d submit to the Church He founded instead of your feelings, your pastor, or a 500-year-old protest. Jesus didn’t invent denominations. He said “Upon this rock I will build My Church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.”

@SonofManwithus I think He was leveraging the Passover Seder, which itself has numerous thematic parallels to Him, and saying "when you celebrate Passover, remember me." Notably, He said this during the third cup, which is the cup of redemption. Not meant as a weekly ritual, imo.

This has never made sense to me. At the Last Supper when Jesus broke the bread and shared the wine... He said "do this in memory of me". I know the catholic church and some other denominations have communion. But I always interpreted that as having a meal of fellowship in his name. Eating and having a drink, talking about our lord and loving each other. Am I way off base?

Our job is to get them ready to be adults. Sleep training is not just good for the child, but a useful way for parents to start to learn their role and how to do it

"sleep training" a newborn means letting a defenseless baby scream for its mother in the dark until it's either exhausted or has given up on life. the attachment literature is clear that before 6 months, a baby crying with nobody coming learns exactly one thing, that calling for help doesn't work and you even have parents bragging about how they tortured their kid into an 8h sleep you need to attend to every need of your child. they don't have a prefrontal cortex able to understand what's happening. if you love them and care for them, they'll barely cry, and when they do there's a clear reason you can address right away

@TRHLofficial Similar to when Moses came down from the mountain and saw the golden calf, and God judged them even though they are His people. Jesus came to Jerusalem and some among His people had spiritual idols, and they were judged. God punishes His people, but never abondons them.

When the tomb of Caiaphas was excavated in 1990, they found two Roman era nails in a limestone box. Who was Caiaphas? He was the high priest who condemned the Son of God to death. Jesus was dismantling the entire power structure that Caiaphas ruled over. So why did he decide to have Jesus killed in that moment? The answer according to Matthew, was the resurrection of Lazarus. Caiaphas could not ignore, nor cover up how a man dead for four days was no longer dead. So Caiaphas said “it is better that one man die” and without knowing it announced the redemption of the world. According to the Mishnah, the code of Jewish law, the trial before Caiaphas was a legal atrocity, -Jesus was tried at night. -He was tried during a feast. -A guilty verdict was issued the same day. -Jesus was forced to incriminate himself. The haste was so that it could be over before the people awoke. Caiaphas knew Jesus was beloved. When Jesus declared “You will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of power.” It was Caiaphas who tore His garments and cried out “blasphemy!” But the law forbade a high priest from tearing those robes and by committing that act, Caiaphas symbolized the end of the ancient priesthood, the end of the animal sacrifices. The temple was ending and a new temple was raising up. Caiaphas did not bring Jesus before Pilate with a religious accusation, but a political matter: “He makes Himself a king.” Pilate gave in for fear of losing his position. At 3 o’clock on Friday afternoon, as Jesus was dying, in the temple right where Caiaphas had officiated, the veil tore. Remembering Jesus’ words “I will rise again on the third day.”, The high priests and the Pharisees asked Pilate to have the tomb sealed and guarded, unintentionally, giving us the greatest proof of the resurrection: that Jesus’ body could not have been stolen. On the third day when the guards ran to Caiaphas to report the tomb was empty, Caiaphas did not repent. He bribed them to cover it up. Three years later, Caiaphas was deposed by the Romans. He would die in disgrace, taking with him into the ossuary those two nails. Were the nails a sign of repentance? A relic? A trophy? Were they just two random nails that meant nothing arbitrarily placed in the box? (Yeah nice try). We cannot say for sure. But we do know the paradox of God is that He will use any means, including man’s sin, to accomplish His grace.

Dear Japan 🇯🇵: You have no idea how much we love you in America. I've studied Manga since I was a kid. Your video games are the best. My favorite mangaka is Takehiko Inoue, and his work Vagabond. My family enjoys sumo. (Our favorite wrestler is Takayasu.) My friends and I would visit our local Japanese grocery store on Fridays just to be around your culture. We studied your language in high school. The best trip of my life was when I got to visit Tokyo in 2014 to accept a Manga award. I hope to visit again. We're already best friends. We just haven't met yet.

Did the Jews under Roman occupation "kill Jesus"? That 2000 year old charge is historically ill-founded. Read SPQR by Cambridge don Mary Beard -- or any history of 1st c Roman occupation. Subject populations had zero autonomy - even their "leadership" had zero autonomy - and whenever there was a rebellion by one person against Roman authority, the whole aligned population, rebel or not, would be murdered. See the Spartacus rebellion. The Appian Way at one point was lined with crucifixes holding rebel-aligned popualtions. Same with the hills of Judea. 34 years later there was a rebellion of Jews against Romans in Judea -- the Jewish-Roman War -- and Rome DID murder and exile the whole Jewish population, and wipe out the nation, and destroy our Temple. During Passover of March 1475 in Italy, a Two-year-old Christian toddler named Simeon went missing from his home, His body was discovered “beneath the house of Samuel” a Talmudist. The physicians who examined his body concluded Simeon had been systematically exsanguinated— drained of his blood. 15 to 23 talmudists were arrested and several confessed to the same crime: They abducted the child, and tortured him by piercing his body to collect blood in a basin, holding him in a cross-like pose, and killing him, and then disposing of his body. 15 of the perpetrators were burned at the stake; the rest died in prison. Members of the synagogue were all forced to convert to Christianity. The synagogue was destroyed and chapel was built over the site. Nearly 500 years later, Vatican II, which was trying to heal relations between the Christians and the Jews, decided the toddler’s martyrdom might be seen as “blood libel” and “collective guilt”, and that the prince-bishop who launched the investigation, could have just been antisemitic, so they removed little Simeon from the liturgical calendar and Roman mardyrology. Veneration, processions and relics and masses in his name were all forbidden. The archbishop at the time proclaimed the convicted Jews to be innocent of the heinous murder. Little Simeon, “ Simon the immaculate” was essentially erased from the church. Since this was one of many decisions declared by Vatican II and not a divine revelation by God, traditional Catholics still honor the feast day of Saint Simeon of Trent, which is today. The artist who painted little Simeon’s martyrdom was arrested for antisemitism in 2020, but fully acquitted.
