Vessels wanting to transit the Strait of Hormuz need to be from friendly countries, and some have to pay fees in Chinese currency or crypto before being escorted through the strait. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

@GasBuddyGuy I don’t think lawmakers have much of a say over the status of the SoH lol. Unless you’re talking about Iranian lawmakers. But probably still no.

let me be clear: the clock is ticking. lawmakers have a narrow window to reverse course and fully restore the Strait. If that doesn’t happen soon, Americans will start changing their summer travel plans- and they will NOT forget why when they head to the polls in November.

@FaytuksNetwork Politico: Trump is going to wrap up the war Reuters: Trump is going to declare victory Fox: Trump is going to announce boots on the ground I unfortunately believe the Fox report since they have close ties to the Trump admin

Personally I find it more likely than doubling down and sending boots on the ground right now. We'll see.

This is exactly what my base case unilateral TACO scenario looks like, fwiw. WSJ: “President Trump told aides he's willing to end the U.S. military campaign against Iran even if the Strait of Hormuz remains largely closed, administration officials said, likely extending Tehran's firm grip on the waterway and leaving a complex operation to reopen it for a later date.”

@gbrew24 The amount of attention being given to this story is embarrassing

Reason why WSJ headline about Trump giving up on Hormuz is bullish for prices: 1) in the short-term, Hormuz isnt reopening 2) once the war ends, US still likely won't care enough to work hard to open it and keep it open. Carter Doctrine is done. That's bullish.

@eteekswe @Rory_Johnston Jan 28, 2024 — Tower 22 : 3 U.S. soldiers killed, 40+ injured. The U.S. launched major retaliatory airstrikes (Feb 2, 2024) against Iran-backed militia targets in Iraq and Syria, hitting command centers, weapons depots, and drone infrastructure tied to Hezbollah.

@Rory_Johnston And when Iran continues to fire missiles and drones at US bases then what? They’re just gonna eat them and not strike back?

Good Q: No, we’re still a ways from over.  I just think this is what the end will most likely look like, so I thought it was interesting when the WSJ quotes came across. I think it’ll still take more of a market reaction for Trump to finally pull the unilateral eject lever.

To speculate the details about a negotiated agreement between the US and Iran before we even know whether it is anything other than a figment of Trump's fevered imagination is journalistic malpractice
