@TrueNorthTakes @Watchdog_MP Because that's a shrinking demographic. And If you look at the parts of the Maritimes and Nfld. that historically provided recruits, they are emptying out in terms of population. The people you want literally aren't there.

I'll never understand why the CAF wants to pander to immigrants and women instead of the demographic that historically has made up nearly all of every military in world history. Young men. Make young men proud of the country they inhabit. Give them something worth defending, and they will sign up in droves (compared to what we have now at least).

Thanks for the serious response @ircoutts And I don’t disagree with a lot of that. Those are real strengths, and honestly, they’re part of what made Canada something people could be proud of for a long time. I think where I get stuck is this: Do you feel like those qualities are being preserved… or rapidly fading? Because when I look around, I still see those traits in some people, but I’m less convinced the system is reinforcing them the way it used to. And that’s where my thinking shifts toward independence. Not out of rejection of those values, but out of a desire to protect and build on them in a way that actually lasts long term. Do you see those qualities getting stronger over time? Or just holding on?

On Tuesday Cooper had been happily playing in the garden sprinkler. Today we’ve said goodbye. Didn’t eat his food yesterday, so trip to vets and CT scan found a mass in his spleen. During surgery discovered he was riddled with nodules. All very sudden. Devastated.
