@RepRoKhanna CA will be lucky if we ever have gas below $5 a gallon again because of your friends targeting oil refiners and then then subsequently choosing to close their operations in the state rather than make millions of dollars in the short term.

Trump's immoral and reckless war in Iran has shot up gas prices in my district to nearly $6 a gallon. Stop the war, stop exporting our crude oil, and pass my windfall profits tax on Big Oil to give Americans a rebate for their gas bills.

@stengel Meanwhile the regime has publicly stated their intent has been to build a nuclear weapon all along...so what did that deal do besides give Iran the money and time to pursue that objective?

You know what would be amazing if Vance and his team can negotiate an agreement where Iran doesn't enrich above 3.67% (far below weapons grade); gets rid of 98% of its stockpile of enriched uranium; has weekly inspections by the IAEA; keeps the straits open without charging anyone; and commits to all of this for at least ten years. Oh, yeah, that was the Obama Iran deal.

@garrytan I'm starting to think Newsom wants a Republican to win. A Republican would have no real power to legislate, but would be a convenient scapegoat for Gavin's biggest weakness in 28 (high gas prices). Either a Republican drops prices via CARB or gets to be blamed for high prices.

@Steve_Yegge Downtown San Jose has always been empty. During Christmas it picks up significantly with Christmas in the Park and also during trade shows.

I just got back from a trip to San Jose. The downtown area is an absolute ghost town, a dead city. I travel to cities all over the country and the world, and I've never seen anything like this before. It feels post-apocalyptic. My Uber driver says it's been getting progressively worse, and he decided to give me a demonstration. We stopped in the middle of a major intersection, in the middle of downtown, in the middle of the day, in the middle of the week, on a sunny day in April, and we got out and walked around the car. It was like Cillian Murphy walking around London in the beginning of 28 Days later. There were pigeons. That's it. And apparently at $250k/year San Jose has the highest average cost of living in the entire country, above even SF? It was a nice trip, though. Just a bit surreal.

Elon Musk and DOGE said they were going to root out waste, fraud and abuse. But during that time, Trump's DOJ dropped OVER 900 criminal cases of fraud. For Trump and Musk, it was never about rooting out waste. It was always about corruption and power.

@Xoen1X @JeremyDLytle73 @TheLaurenChen Being forced to do something with a gun to your head is exploitive VS the pursuit of capitalism being consensual volunteerism. The USSR literally became an empire and fomented revolutions were used to expand their strategic power, the very definition of imperialism.

@pdethomasco @JeremyDLytle73 @TheLaurenChen Supporting communist revolutionaries abroad is not imperialist. They are not setting up an exploitive extraction economy like capitalist nations do. Labour camps even at peak were never a significant % of the workforce.

It's crazy to me how Robin Hood is now popularized as "stealing from the rich to give to the poor" (Socialist messaging) In reality, Robin Hood stole back the taxes that a cruel leader unjustly levied against the population (Anti-socialist messaging)

The San Francisco-born small business, Philz Coffee, just lost its community values after being bought out. Now owned by private equity firm Freeman Spogli, Philz is no longer allowed to display pride flags. This sad moment highlights the critical importance of locally-rooted businesses that support and understand the communities they serve, including the LGBTQ community.

@NotForSale80 @FinancialPhys @nypost Government regulations and guardrails is control. Argentina has a long way to go, but at one point their economy was at equilibrium with America until they started flirting more and more with guardrails and regulations and over 120 years it evolved into the clusterfuck it became.

@pdethomasco @FinancialPhys @nypost That's just not true. Argentina is not a case study because we're not talking about government control. We're talking about government regulations and guard rails, which is completely different. Also the dollar is the world's currency which gives us advantages.

The bots and trolls are after her faking a real grassroots movement. But nativism is an elitist DC project. Most Americans just want secure and orderly immigration. Poll after poll shows Republicans are open to her ideas about how to address people here for years.
Rep. María Elvira Salazar@RepMariaSalazar

There’s a fundamental misconception about what “amnesty” really means. Amnesty is looking the other way: no consequences, no accountability, just more chaos. That’s the system we’ve had for decades. The Dignity Act ends it with enforcement, accountability, real penalties, and ZERO tolerance for criminals. That’s not amnesty. That’s law and order!

Javier Milei is a one-in-a-billion man. But his ideas do not have to be rare. The next generation can adopt his principled respect of property rights, free speech, free markets, and capitalist prosperity, and help make it the norm for the future. Be the change you want to see.

@NotForSale80 @FinancialPhys @nypost They don't need to care. When capitalism is functioning in full gear prices are brought down and the COL is lowered. @pdethomasco @FinancialPhys @nypost Factually incorrect. Companies could pay as high as they want to go...and the government wouldn't stop them...but they don't care about Americans being able to afford anything. Government has always had to reign them in to keep them from gouging the public.

@Pontifex I guess we are a few popes away, at least, from creating a new Christian military order to defend the Christians being slaughtered around the world. This guy isn't going to do it. The church would attract and maintain so many more believers if it defended them.

God does not bless any conflict. Anyone who is a disciple of Christ, the Prince of Peace, is never on the side of those who once wielded the sword and today drop bombs. Military action will not create space for freedom or times of #Peace, which comes only from the patient promotion of coexistence and dialogue among peoples.

MAGA pushing the same tired narrative, so we’ll share the facts: ✅ There are nearly 4x more company HQ launches within California than there are relocations out of California ✅ California is now home to the most Fortune 500 companies (2 years in a row) ✅ California is home to the most business starts of any state ✅ California is home to the most Inc 5000 companies (2 years in a row) ✅ California’s economy just grew for the 16th year in a row (5% last year) ✅ California’s economy hit a record $4.25 trillion — larger than any other state by more than $1 trillion
Jake@JakeCan72

The company that tracks companies leaving California left California. CBRE moved its headquarters. So did Chevron, Oracle, Tesla, Charles Schwab, Palantir, Yamaha, Neutrogena, and Public Storage. Hundreds of headquarters. Thousands of jobs. One decade. California has over 420,000 regulatory restrictions — 100,000 more than the next closest state. Highest marginal income tax in the country: 13.3%. Florida, Tennessee, and Texas: zero. Either California is the problem — or every major company that left made the same mistake. h/t @TheFP
