A Letter From former Dorchester County Sheriff Ray Nash
David Pascoe Has Always Been A Conservative
For more than twenty years, Republican leaders in Dorchester County and throughout our state have encouraged David Pascoe to join the Republican Party. His conservative record and accomplishments embody the values of the GOP.
In 2004, when David ran for Solicitor, I met with him and asked a straightforward question: Why should Republicans and conservatives support you?
David’s answer was just as direct. He said, “Support me because I will always be the most conservative person in the race.”
As the two term sheriff of Dorchester County and a hardcore conservative Republican, I proudly supported him that year and in every election that followed.
Over the next two decades, David backed up those words with action. He called for the firing squad when few others were willing to take that position publicly. He put violent offenders on death row. He challenged liberal judges and opposed judicial candidates who did not respect the rule of law. He staunchly supported the Second Amendment. He worked closely with churches to help redirect troubled youth toward productive lives. Through his close working relationship with the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office, David's office obtained the highest conviction rate in the State. He and I spoke all over the circuit years ago about the growing problems caused by illegal immigration, long before it became a regular talking point in national politics. Even as a Democrat, David endorsed conservative Republicans for sheriff, solicitor, and senate over Democrats.
That record explains why every Republican Sheriff and Clerk of Court in Dorchester County has supported David Pascoe over the last twenty years. People know David's values and have seen how he leads. He is a true conservative.
David was approached more than once about formally switching parties. In 2024, the Dorchester Republican Chairman Steven Wright had another conversation with him about switching. By that point, David had grown increasingly frustrated with a Democratic Party that moved away from the values he was raised on. The decision to switch was about conviction, not convenience.
After David made that choice, Steven Wright called me and said, “I finally did what we’ve been trying to do for twenty years. David Pascoe is officially a Republican.” Steven said this with a strong sense of pride.
Dorchester County Republicans have known David Pascoe a long time. We have watched him take on powerful interests in the cause of justice and accountability. We have seen him withstand political pressure from both sides. His record speaks for itself.
His party registration may have changed, but his conservative principles have been consistent for two decades.
South Carolina needs an Attorney General who will enforce the law, protect victims, defend life, and stand up to corruption. I know David Pascoe is that man.
