“Mumbai is Upgrading” If you have travelled around Mumbai over the last 5 years, you’ve definitely seen this board somewhere. It was a sign that either the road is dug up, or traffic has been diverted. And it felt like ‘roz ka traffic hai’, ‘kitna saal construction chalega’, ‘dhul-mitti udti hai’, ‘daily ka kitkit’. But in the background, at breathtaking speed, Mumbai was indeed upgrading. I stay two mins from Akurli Metro station. When the first pillars were put here, my family would joke that ‘mere bache travel karenge ye metro mein’. Because that is the speed of construction we were used to in Mumbai. Within 5 years, I was myself travelling in that metro. And it’s been 3 years since I’ve been taking that metro to office everyday. But it’s not only the Metro. Look around. Big towers and projects are coming up everywhere - even in residential areas. The Goregaon skyline looks different than it used to 5-7 years back. The Borivali skyline looks different. The Lower Parel skyline looks different. South Mumbai looks different with the Coastal Road. The Haji Ali junction feels different. The promenade has given a new look to the city. The Atal Setu presents a new skyline of the city. Drone shots of Mumbai look vastly different than they did merely a few years ago. The cement road upgrades in my area are better than previous shoddy road work. The local trains didn’t stop much in spite of extraordinary rains this year - signalling that people got things right in the backdrop. More AC trains are visible on local train networks - plans are in place to upgrade all old coaches with ones that have doors. Of course, everything isn’t perfect. There is a lot to do - in sanitation, traffic, roadways. These things don’t change overnight - but the trajectory has been set in the right direction. Multiple metro lines, a coastal road, a sea bridge, a new airport, local train upgrades - these are staggering changes in a span of 7-10 years. You may not realize that if you live and move around this city on a daily basis. But ask someone who was here 15-20 years back, and they’ll tell you how different things are. Mumbai is indeed upgrading. And the energy to do more is infectious - Mumbai 3, the Vadhavan port, more airport terminals, multiple metro lines already in progress, underground tunnels connecting different parts. There is no poverty of ambition. And that is fitting for a city like Mumbai - it is the mayanagri after all. I can’t talk about all this and not mention the architect of this transformation of Mumbai - @Dev_Fadnavis ! Yes, there is a team and lakhs of people who have contributed at various levels, but leadership matters. To move files. To energize teams. To execute at scale and speed. To monitor and review. Mumbai is going to look and feel radically different within the next 15 years. It is on its way to become a truly world class city. And I am a proud Mumbaikar witnessing this transformation of Aamchi Mumbai first hand.

You’re right, Sushant. We have a long way to go. But please consider how far we have come. When I joined the company in 1991, the economy had just been opened up. A global consulting firm strongly advised us to exit the car business since we had no chance, in their view, of competing with the foreign brands that would enter. Three decades later, we are still around and competing fiercely. We have used all the surrounding cynicism, scepticism—and even rudeness, as in your post—to fuel our hunger to succeed. Yes we have miles to go before we sleep. There is no room for any complacency and continuous improvement will continue to be our mantra. But thank you for feeding the fire in our bellies….

@dmuthuk I sincerely appreciate the government to have heard the taxpayers. It's absolutely fair for any government to change the rules of taxation prospectively. @nsitharaman @narendramodi

Partial victory for taxpayers. Government provides option to tax payers to follow old method of indexation or not. But this is applicable only for properties bought till July 23rd 2024, the day of budget. Beneficial to all existing owners of property. But not for those who are going to acquire properties from now on.

That is the problem! We all know of people who are in the same company for over twenty years but every time you meet them they are unhappy and tell you they will leave. They are waiting for some stock option to vest, kids to grow up. They neither leave their job nor their complaints! They are the holders. We all also know of people who jump from one company to another, from one city to another. You will see a pattern. They are deeply unhappy where ever they are. They feel underpaid, overworked, trapped with a bad boss and so on.They join somewhere else and are very happy initially and then the same pattern repeats. They keep moving but find themselves in the same place! They are the runners. A student of Zen is watching his master take questions. A visitor is thinking of moving from Pune to Hyderabad and asks the master for his opinion. “So how is the life in Pune?”, asks the Master. “Oh it’s a terrible town. People are racist, traffic is bad, summers are scorching ”. “Don’t move” says the master. “Hyderabad is exactly like that”. The next visitor asks the same question. “So how is life in Pune” asks the Master. “Oh beautiful, friendly neighbours, all cities have traffic but this has lots of places to party, you get to enjoy the weather, great schools, am so happy.”, says the visitor. “ Ah! Hyderabad is just the same, you will love it!”, the master says. The student is looking at the master incredulously! The master clarifies, “Wherever you go, you take yourself with you. And that is the problem.” We blame the country, the company, the city but we forget we bring the weather with us. Some of us carry charged clouds and in bright sunshine we can create thunderstorms and some of us carry our sunshine with us. We can either find peace in the chaos of the markets or we will create ruckus on a Himalayan mountain top. We can escape situations and places, but from the self, there is no escape! Plants get stunted if moved. A Banyan tree has to adept to all kinds of winds and weathers! Careers are similar. Observe the Fortune 500 or NIFTY 50 CEO careers. You will see most of them stayed put in a place or two. It is not that they wouldn’t have got offers for a few dollars more or that they were never disappointed on a missed promotion. In a long career all of us will experience it. If running away from problems becomes our natural response, we will keep running. Anything worthwhile is achieved by taking on tough problems and seeing them through. Life is a game of Poker. Most of us are not dealt a Royal Flush but our job is to play with what we have. ताउम्र यही भूल करता रहा,  धूल चेहरे पर थी  और मैं आइना साफ़ करता रहा Entire life I kept repeating this stupidity. The dirt was on my face and I kept cleaning the mirror. We neither live in a city nor work in a company. We live and experience life between the two ears. We make our own weather and the outcomes of Joy or Misery…those too are inside jobs! #sbfc

Hahahahahahahahahaha All these people gathered in a city which is known for its highest level of productivity in India. They crushed themselves in killer local trains to celebrate. Mumbai doesn't have "free time". But thankfully we do know once in a decade how to pause, and take it all in to celebrate. They aren't jobless. It's just that for once, they said fuck you to their jobs and went all in. India >>>> 4 hours of work. Even if the manager is unhappy. We all deserve some downtime. And rightfully so.

I have all respect for cricket and those who play it. But it’s a bit scary to see how much free time people have in the middle of a weekday for something as inconsequential (for them) as this.

@whizkidd It's the sakinaka of Thane district ..they have built two bridges which took years anyway but the @CMOMaharashtra decision to concretise highways has screwed it up all the way to Talasari (Parsi Dairy Farm)...and the completed portion feels like a camel ride...that bad !!

If Ramesh from Thane, Savio from Dahisar, and Gurpreet from Bandra wants to travel to Surat by road, they all need to converge at this notorious point in Bhayandar called the Fountain Junction Those aware of this place would already know how bad things could get here. This place has been in a perennial traffic jam for the past decade or so. It's a travesty that the only way in and out of Mumbai -- the financial capital of India -- is this single choke point. The nearest other alternative route is over 25 km away. Let me repeat: There is only a single northbound bridge that connects Mumbai to Northern India. How did we become so incompetent at town and urban planning?

@MrMotilalOswal Dear Sir, Your app crashed exactly at 9.15 AM and is still not up. This is absolutely unacceptable. Absolutely unreliable. This was not the day when we set it aside, saying it happens. Boss, it should not happen if you are in serious business.

Couple traveled to #Georgia from India on 26.4.2024. Visa start date was 27.4.2024. Immigration officer + airlines missed checking or allowed them as they were landing late night on 26.4.2024. Georgia immigration officials deported them back to India. They requested to stay put in the immigration area for the next 5-6 hrs post which the visa would be valid. But nope. Adamant to get them deported back. @GulfAir was asked to take them back to India in their next flight. This was clearly stated to be a free trip home. Gulf Air didn't carry back their baggages to India. Now Gulf Air is asking for the return fare from the passengers. @Zourabichvili_S What would it take for the mindset of your Government to change towards tourists coming from India to visit your country? Not every tourist is coming into your country to stay back or cross borders. A big change is needed from the top. Be it for visa issuance or such incidents. Hope your country needs tourists. My thoughts: Had been any other country they surely would have allowed the passengers to wait it out for a few hours and given entry. There was no need for tourists to your country to be treated in such a way. But Georgia has been Georgia always and the stories you have from multiple travelers.

@stockifi_Invest How would they generate revenue to keep sustaining the cost of operations that get impacted due to inflation? Any increase in fares and the people will protest at drop of hat. In my view, Govt has done a brilliant job of generating more revenue without increasing fares.
