@robertgraham It actually isn't begging for a monument because of the traffic around it.

Why would Aussies holiday in Bali or Thailand when they could just holiday in a different part of Australia? Why go to a Thai restaurant when I could just go to the pub? Why be around Thai or Balinese people when my mates Jonno & Stevo are right here?

@teal_lens @tomkXY Don't forget about EWR and HPN in the New York area, too. But NYC, LON and PAR refer to all of those airports collectively.

My list of weirdest, least intuitive major airport codes: - CGK: Jakarta - DMK: Bangkok - FCO: Rome - GIG: Rio de Janeiro - GMP: Seoul - GRU: Sao Paulo - MAA: Chennai - MCO: Orlando - MSY: New Orleans - ORD: Chicago - OTP: Bucharest - PVG: Shanghai - YUL: Montreal - YYZ: Toronto

As an airport code nerd, it grinds my gears to see this, because LDN airport is an airport in Nepal, rather than in a global city with red telephone boxes.

Most insane Japanese cultural victory are Chinese tea shops in Shenzhen using Japanese renderings of Chinese characters

there is a neighborhood in Tokyo, Nakameguro, which has like 0 Japanese restaurants. Every single food establishment is like a cafe or European restaurant. That's how you know it's going to be 100% locals and 0% tourists/expats

Im not saying I want this to happen but I like the look and feel of the Australian geography in the scenario where all the world's ice melted.

There should be a way to tell a stranger with whom you’re interacting “I’m autistic and I can tell you are too, so it’s okay!! You don’t need to mask!!!!!!” without it being offensively overfamiliar

@tanpukunokami Imagine being proud that your country is famous for the highly processed cheap garbage that students subsist of. Japan has so much better to offer and yet because it’s cheap content to create, this is now how Japan is seen from overseas.

🏪 Japan's convenience stores are now tourist attractions. Not temples. Not Mount Fuji. 7-Eleven. Tourists are spending 30-60 minutes browsing a single store. They arrive with pre-researched lists of snacks to find. Google searches for "7-Eleven Japan" spiked 5,000% in 2024. TikTok is flooded with "combini haul" videos. A $3 egg sandwich from a Japanese convenience store has legendary status online. what's your go-to combini item? 👇

Adam and Steve live in two suburbs and commute into a city by car. They actually live on the exact same road. Steve lives nearby, so has a shorter commute, but is in traffic the whole way. Adam lives further out, so only sees traffic part of the way. Whose commute is "better"?
