Seeing a lot of different people questioning the CCC foundation now, including under the chesscom post. And now people are asking a fair question: why donate at all if the memorial event can cover itself (and likely even run a surplus) via entry + spectator/VIP fees? Where is the money actually going? The foundation. The same foundation whose site says "launched in 2025," but NC SOS/IRS public records show 2017. And yeah: I raised this for the Q&A months ago and just got blocked by Eric Rosen, even though he was asking for questions. So donations go to the CCC foundation. A nonprofit that doesn't even have Danya's name in it, and has < $50k activity since 2017.

But: $350 entry (non-GMs) + $75/day spectator pass so family can watch (plus VIP passes of $250–$350/day). Even at just 120 players, if each brings one family member for a single day, that's $42k in entries + $9k in spectator passes = $51k (already above the prize fund). And the capacity is 300. So what was the fundraising for?
