🚨 Claude Code costs $200/month. GitHub Copilot costs $19/month. Jack Dorsey's company built a free alternative. 35,000 GitHub stars.
It's called Goose.
An open source AI agent built by Block that goes beyond code suggestions. It installs, executes, edits, and tests. With any LLM you choose.
Not autocomplete. Not suggestions. A full autonomous agent that takes actions on your computer.
No vendor lock-in. No monthly subscription. Bring your own model.
Here's what Goose does:
→ Works with ANY LLM. Claude, GPT, Gemini, Llama, DeepSeek, Ollama. Your choice.
→ Reads and understands your entire codebase
→ Writes, edits, and refactors code across multiple files
→ Runs shell commands and installs dependencies
→ Executes and debugs your code automatically
→ Extensible through MCP. Connect it to any external tool.
→ Desktop app, CLI, and web interface. Pick your workflow.
→ Written in Rust. Fast. Lightweight. No bloat.
Here's the wildest part:
Block is a $40 billion company. They built Cash App, Square, and TIDAL. They use Goose internally. Then they open sourced the entire thing.
This isn't a side project from a random developer. This is production-grade tooling from a company that processes billions in payments. Built for their own engineers. Given to everyone.
Claude Code: $200/month. Locked to Claude.
GitHub Copilot: $19/month. Locked to GitHub.
Cursor: $20/month. Locked to their editor.
Goose: Free. Any LLM. Any editor. Any workflow. Forever.
35.3K GitHub stars. 3.3K forks. 4,078 commits. Built by Block.
100% Open Source. Apache 2.0 License.

Here is my new paper for the Great British Business Council on the importance of oil, gas and coal to the UK economy.
The UK’s industrial decline is not inevitable, but the result of decades of deliberate policy choices that have undermined domestic energy production and driven manufacturing offshore. Lowering UK employment and tax revenues, while increasing the UK trade deficit.
The paper also includes a plan to reverse this.

@davidonchainx Of course. They were never going to subsidise compute forever

What if Anthropic's plan to profitability is:
> Launch Claude Code
> Make it easy for people who can't code to build apps
> Everyone loves it
> Ship new features every week
> Every new feature burns through more credits
> Users hit their credit limits faster
> Soon their entire business runs on Claude
> Then raise prices a lot
> Everyone forced to pay otherwise their business dies
> They can't leave because they don't know how to code
> Anthropic revenue increases by 10x overnight
They're not selling an AI tool
They're selling a dependency

Edinburgh in top 5 most pothole-ridden UK cities with over 100,000 craters trib.al/gEBF4ez

@daffy5dugs @Wilson34David Drove along Melville St yesterday and it felt it had been subjected to targeted aerial bomb attacks. As are the majority of roads in and around the city centre. It can only be by choice of the council that the roads are in such a state
English

@Wilson34David Love how she inadvertently highlights the chronic underfunding of councils by sharing the mess the SNP have left Edinburgh and other places in. The roads in Edinburgh are worthy of an off road experience for 4 wheel drives.

i used to wake up every morning & the first thing i did was give her kisses & say good morning! are you hungry?, and then we would run downstairs & eat, then go for a walk. i have been late to the office every single business day for the past… 6 months, at least. no more late mornings, now. i miss her.

The far right don't force the segregation of sexes, threaten the lives of children who smudge a book, force a teacher into hiding for showing a cartoon, gang rape thousands of young working class girls, spontaneously combust at pop concerts.
