This bit on Christian rock bands from Jeremy Alder is genius. I caught up with Jeremy for my latest episode, where we talked about his homeschooling from K-12, why he was a philosophy major, why he went to seminary, and whether he's now all in on comedy. Link👇🏻& all the podcasts

Cam McEvoy ascended to a gold medal at the Olympics and now has broken the world record in 50m after controversially reducing his training volume by 90%. This completely bucked traditional swimming methods and he struggled to even find a coach willing to help him implement this idea. He studied the science of weight lifting and cycling, and decided traditional swimming training wasn't ideal for 50m event. I found this interesting and lends credit to some models people in the science based fitness community discuss. Namely that less volume, with more intensity, and focusing on rest/recovery, has its advantages.

@WesleyLHuff @museumofBible This is right. The trouble Christian apologists get in is when they portray themselves as an expert in history, physics, chemistry, anthropology, archeology, New Testament, and philosophy. Instead a good apologist summarizes and points to more specialized Christian scholarship.

I'm just about to hop on a plane and head to Washington, D.C., to lead a VIP tour of the Dead Sea Scroll exhibit at the @museumofBible. My colleagues along with the museum's Chief Curatorial officer, Dr. Bobby Duke, will then give a series of lectures related to the Bible, its manuscripts, texts, and canon history. We're also showcasing the museum's new Dead Sea Scrolls documentary along with the world premiere of episode 3 of "Can I Trust the Bible?" series. This past season, I have been incredibly privileged to publicly express my personal convictions regarding my faith and study. I never imagined nor sought out the public platforms that I've been able to be part of. That attention has been humbling but also quite overwhelming. Despite being continually labelled "the expert," I am far from it! I have the privilege to work with genuine experts, individuals whose knowledge and craft surpass mine by country miles. I am merely a life-long student gleaning from others and excitedly telling those I have the occasion to share with. Don't let the podcast titles like "number 1 Christian expert" fool you, I'm pretty low on the food chain compared to those who have the privilege to study formally. I'm not claiming to be the voice of "mainstream critical scholarship," the consensus of my field, or any other grandiose title; merely the voice of myself. I would appreciate your prayers for the coming months. Though I've posted here and there I've been somewhat off the grid lately due to personal and academic commitments that required focused, solitary devotion. I am convinced that so many things have come together solely due to God's timing and provision. Nonetheless, I have daunting academic and personal commitments approaching that require significant concentration and the removal of distractions. The emotional whiplash of so many people reaching out and expressing thanks combined with the scrutiny the limelight brings has not always been easy. But I am thankful to God for His provision and strength. “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore,Therefore I will boast all the more in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me." - Corinthians 12:9-10

David Brooks's magnum opus on leadership, "America Needs a Trimmer," March 25, 2026. @DavidBrooks224 It's an excellent long essay rooted in historical observations on how to lead with wisdom long-term. (A lot of overlap with what I teach). Gift article: theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/03/…

@KyleTheige It's fun to read through these replies. Lots of people like where they live. A single person who loves the Timberwolves would totally enjoy living right by Target Center in a condo like Finch. But people with kids often want a yard and a house so find something 20 minutes away.

Hypothetically speaking… If you knew someone who was looking to move to the Minneapolis area this summer/fall, what areas/suburbs/etc. would you recommend for buying a house? Again, hypothetically speaking.

@PatMcAfeeShow Great thread over on Threads from earlier today with quotes from their kid on their first soccer game. A lot of kids don't understand how soccer works as compared with sharing and taking turns in school. They later come around and get the idea. @elizamacarthurwrites/post/DV3qYx1gEla?xmt=AQF0z6TA6-R9O_RaYodredfm4RX5NsufSXkxqM1zM5uFwGBMNopWwKy7ihMxUU0Td1JO_rA&slof=1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">threads.com/@elizamacarthu

We took baby girl Mackenzie to her first soccer practice this morning.. I grew up playing soccer.. I spent A LOT of my childhood kicking a soccer ball. It’s a beautiful sport that can teach life lessons and can help create some silky feet athleticism.. so I was certainly EXCITED. Mackenzie will play a lot of sports and have a lot of first days.. but the first ever sports practice.. had my mind racing towards the most positive potential outcome. 2039 Women’s World Cup as a 16 year old.. 2040 Summer Olympics as a 17 year old. It’s all a possibility if she takes to soccer like a fish to water.. what if she walks out there and just starts dicing kids up FIRST DAY.. “WHO KNOWS WHAT’S IN A CARSEAT IN THE BACKSEAT RIGHT NOW?” We get there and walk in.. she gets her first jersey. She was handed jersey number 9 👀👀 A TRUE 9 POSSIBLY We walked over to the field.. then to the area she was gonna be practicing.. the anticipation and excitement grew with every step We got to our field a little early.. I ran around with her a little bit to get her warmed up.. hopefully get her comfy with what’s going on.. she was really DOIN SOCCER.. WE were doing soccer Then it was time for the coaches and other players to come onto the field.. and BOY.. SHE DID NOT participate. Tears and yelling for 30 minutes straight. ZERO completed drills in actual soccer practice but A LOT of crying and watching from the side… turns out, today was a mental rep day.. and I LOVE what we’ve started. It’s all still possible my love… Do your journey. I can’t wait to ride alongside all of it.

Darryn Peterson revealed to @shre98 he suffered cramps so severe that he was hospitalized and needed IV bags: “We had boot camp where we were just running, no basketball…my body just locked up on me…I had like a full-body (cramp), super serious. You could say it was traumatic.”

@dontejharvey Caleb Wilson was incredibly impressive during the first half of the first Duke Carolina game. As a Duke fan and fan of great basketball, I would have liked to see him come to Cameron and try to knock off Duke. It's less fun to win if we have a big accidental advantage.

Whew… y’all, we gotta come back to reality for a sec! It’s cool to throw a little jab here and there 👀, but dial it in, Duke Nation‼️ We don’t need all this extra energy! 🙅🏾‍♂️ Prayers up for Caleb Wilson 🙏🏾 because trust me, we’ve been here before! When Flagg and Maliq went down, we were holding our breath for weeks 😩 Let’s just stay chill, we’ve got more games ahead, and this ride ain’t over yet. You either move with the TEAM or get lost talking in circles 🤷🏾‍♂️ And to UNC fans… same applies. Lock in, next man up 👊🏾 Duke fans, we’ve been here before. Let’s go play some basketball 💙😈🏀

In the summer of 1997 I took a course at Wycliffe Hall Oxford on Christian spirituality from theologian Alistair McGrath. I’d come into the course with all of my certainties, so it’s fair to say that I was a bit offended when he assigned the writings of a Catholic contemplative named Teresa Sánchez de Cepeda y Ahumada. I thought we were in the serious business of studying theology, not entertaining fringe mystics. It’s now fair to say that St. Teresa of Avila is at the very top of the list of those who have shaped me over the last 30 years. This extraordinary woman—who experienced early trauma, who was denied access to particular vocations and learning because of her gender, who was questioned for not being ethnically and religiously pure, who was relentlessly critiqued by male inquisitors half her age and a fraction of her genius—she became my teacher, my spiritual director, my guide into more spacious places. I walked into my office early this morning and looked at this little stack—I hadn’t noticed it in a while. And I quietly whispered, “Thank you.” I hope she smiled.

"So, Dad, what's the *point* of a school?" I take a breath. This is it. I've been waiting. I do 10 minutes on the examined life, on transcendentals and a good life, on reason and revelation, on human happiness. "Oh. But I meant, like, a 'school.' Why can't it just be outside?"

Thinking about health and fitness one of the weird aspect if the more elite long distance running community is the focus on low weight. Usually the assumption is the less you weigh the better you'll be. Think maybe trying to get to under 18 bmi. For me this is under 100. Man I feel like shit. Tired cant recover. In a constant fog. When I started weight lifting my team told me I'd gain weight and get slower😂 my running times improved with weight lifting and my best running weight with my current muscle is about 115/120. About a 22 bmi. Ryan hall, a famous marathon runner, was 130 lbs at 6 feet. I cant help but wonder if a few extra pounds of muscle would have helped. I remember when he retired and gained muscle up to 180 lbs and there was some controversy

@bgeis_bird Have a son at Duke and I can't tell you how much this will help me enjoy watching more to understand what's going on. I had previously only noticed the pass from the guard to the big at the top of the key. I'm also going to implement insights into my old man pickup game.

Darren Harris, who is the 9th and last player who plays regular minutes on #1 Duke, is a very good player but only plays 10 minutes per game. He was the second leading scorer for Duke with 16 points in 17 minutes against Notre Dame. His teammates were happy for him.

I've been writing about my spiritual journey as I try to find my way to faith. Today I shared my plan to dedicate the first 15 minutes of every day to reading the Bible, journaling and maybe praying. The full post is in the next tweet. If you have advice, I'd love to hear it.

Any psychologist will tell you, the Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator is mostly bullshit. Yet the majority of Fortune 500 companies use the test, several million people complete it each year, and some even base their love life on it. Why? The Big Five test is about twice as accurate as the Meyers-Briggs test for predicting life outcomes, placing the usefulness of the MBTI test halfway between science and astrology. When we use personality tests that impose social categories—like the Meyers Briggs or Astrology—we risk exaggerating the differences between groups and the similarities within them. When this occurs with other types of identities like race or gender, we typically call it “stereotyping” and we try to avoid it. When consultants do it in companies, they can make money and do it on dubious scientific grounds. Our latest newsletter explains why the MTBI is a bad measure, but why people are nevertheless obsessed with it (we also give people a personality test that can actually predict their success at work, life, and love): powerofusnewsletter.com/p/why-are-we-s…
