But the Friday before the Kentucky Derby is your day. For one day a year we honor you a little extra and mark it as the day you made it to the big dance and ran under the Twin Spires in the Kentucky Oaks with the entire world watching. You didn’t win that day, but it doesn’t matter. You made it and then gave the industry a bunch of beautiful babies after. You did more than your share for the industry, I just wish the industry did more for you. You were our first girl here and now you are our oldest. You are our matriarch, our Queen of Hearts. The day we pulled you from an Oklahoma kill pen almost five years ago was our lucky day. You will live out your life here safely and loved the way you deserve to be. Since yesterday we received $380 more dollars toward our hay goal (thank you Peter, Cynthia, PC Patriots, our wish friend in NY Patricia, Ann, Jane, Laura, Joanne!), which we need to meet ASAP or we won’t have anything to feed them. We fed our last hay this morning. Starting today we are at $1,037 raised so far, leaving us with $5,363 to go to make our goal of $6,000! We are always so grateful for everyone’s support.  So as of tomorrow, we will be out of hay. We have the best hay guy, but he has bills of his own to pay and now we have to pay him before he will deliver more. While we are also floundering, we can’t blame him for that.

It boggles the mind that we are on the eve of yet another Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby — the greatest two days in horse racing in North America — and we are significantly struggling to feed these souls. None of them were talented enough to make the big dance (ok, Vivian was but she lost her shoes out of the gate and was never a factor AND ended up in a kill pen anyway) but their lives still matter. Since yesterday we received $270 more dollars toward our hay goal (thank you Ray and Mary!), which we need to meet ASAP or we won’t have anything to feed them. We set the goal at $6,000 again because we also have the farrier and feed (Abner lost a shoe again, farrier had to postpone until next week because of weather) to buy. After yesterday we are at $637 raised so far, leaving us with $5,363 to go! We are always so grateful for everyone’s support. Look at our wonderful herd! Especially our 26-year-old Kentucky Oaks girl Vivian begging for her muffins! She defies her age and she really is such a special girl. 🚨 Farm Bill Moves Forward...But Animal Protections Blocked The House passed its version of the Farm Bill, but only after blocking votes on multiple bipartisan animal welfare amendments that had strong support to pass. Among the measures denied a vote: - Ending extreme confinement of pigs - Halting horse slaughter exports - Cracking down on animal fighting networks - Stopping subsidies for mink fur farms Lawmakers were allowed to vote on a carve-out to weaken the greyhound racing ban, and rejected it 178–237. Critics say leadership blocked the other amendments because they would have passed. Now attention shifts to the Senate, where advocates say there’s still a path forward to restore these protections. 📢 The fight for animals isn’t over...it’s moving to the next stage.
