#Sweden will condition any state aid to Middle Eastern countries on their treatment of Christians and indigenous groups such as #Assyrians, Minister Benjamin Dousa said after meeting Assyrian representatives in Stockholm, reaffirming that minority rights will factor into Swedish support. assyriapost.com/sweden-ties-ai…

An Assyrian Nineveh Plain administrative region in northern Iraq, firmly embedded within Iraq’s constitutional framework, will serve Türkiye’s long-term interest by reducing contested zones and enhance stability, writes Assyrian-Dutch analyst Marcus Yalcin Be Shao. The recent exchange between Namrod Koshaba in this publication and @barinkayaoglu in Türkiye Today about a Turkish-backed Assyrian region in northern Iraq has opened an important discussion that deserves to move beyond disagreement and toward strategic clarity. The central question is not whether Assyrians possess legitimate historical grievances or an indigenous connection to northern Iraq, few serious observers deny their suffering or their indigenous status in northern Iraq. Rather, the real issue is whether an Assyria Nineveh Plain administrative region within Iraq can align with the long-term interests of Türkiye. #Turkey #Türkiye #Iraq #Assyrian #Assyria #Kurd #Kurdish #Syria assyriapost.com/why-an-assyria…

Congressman LaHood Urges Presidential Support for Assyrians in Iraq in Letter to President Trump The senior Republican lawmaker is calling on President Donald J. Trump to prioritize the rights and political future of Iraq’s Assyrians, framing the issue as both a moral imperative and a strategic U.S. interest in the Middle East, according Assyrian news site Nineveh News. In a February 16 letter, Rep. @RepLaHood, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, urged the White House to press both Baghdad and the KRG to fully implement long-ignored constitutional protections for Iraq’s indigenous Assyrian population. LaHood, who represents a district with a significant Assyrian constituency, described the community as “a tremendous asset to the United States,” emphasizing their significance. He credited Trump’s leadership with drawing historic attention to the persecution of Middle Eastern #Christians and argued that renewed U.S. engagement could help reverse the demographic collapse of Iraq’s #Christian population. Central to the congressman’s appeal is Article 125 of Iraq’s Constitution, which guarantees administrative, political, and cultural rights to the Assyrian people. According to LaHood. The approval of Halabja as Iraq's 19th province last year has emboldened Assyrians and others looking to establish new provinces. The debate over the future of Assyrians, Yazidis, and others in Nineveh has resurfaced following the Iraqi parliament’s decision in April this year to recognize Halabja and its surrounding districts as Iraq’s 19th province. That move has revived calls from various groups to create new provinces, especially within Nineveh. Following Halabja’s recognition, Iraq’s Badr parliamentary bloc called for the creation of a new province encompassing the districts of Tal Afar, Sinjar, and the Nineveh Plains. The Badr Organization, a Shi’a political group led by Hadi al-Amiri, holds 17 seats in parliament. At a press conference in Baghdad, lawmaker Waad al-Qaddo, a Shabak minority representative and member of the Badr bloc, said the proposal aimed to address governance gaps affecting Turkmen, Yazidi, and Assyrian populations. “The people of Tal Afar, Sinjar, and the Nineveh Plains have been marginalized,” al-Qaddo told reporters. “Establishing a new province is necessary to ensure justice and fair representation.” #Iraq #Assyria #Assyrian #Nineveh #Arab #Kurdish assyriapost.com/debate-to-brea…

Independent Assyrian groups have long observed Nadine Maenza’s pro-Kurdish narrative and stance. While she ostensibly advocates for religious freedom, she consistently echoes Kurdish talking points by framing Kurdish groups as protectors of Assyrians and Christians, while overlooking and downplaying the consistent pattern of oppression against Assyrians–including land grabs–by Kurdish groups. Of all the groups and issues Maenza champions, her pro-Kurdish stance stands out. She is not of Kurdish origin, so there is no ethnic affinity to explain her sudden embrace of Kurdish groups with a documented track record of oppression against Assyrian Christians. Interestingly, observers following Christian issues in the Middle East have noted that Maenza’s pro-Kurdish stance did not evolve gradually but appeared suddenly. Her abrupt pro-Kurdish turn and consistent disregard for documented patterns of oppression by Kurdish actors against Assyrians–both in the KRG and in northeast Syria–is something we will report on. #Syria #Iraq #Christianity #Kurd #Kurds #Assyrian #Assyria #Assyrians #Christian

The notion that the Kurds "sacrificed themselves selflessly" to save the world from ISIS is false. Aside from inflated numbers and the fact that most ISIS victims were Arabs, and most of those killed fighting ISIS in Syria and Iraq were also Arabs, the Kurds focused on exploiting ISIS to seize more land. Their military contributions served only Kurdish self-interest: protecting Kurdish communities and expanding territorial control. #Syria #Iraq #ISIS #Kurds #Kurdish #Assyria #Arab #Assyrian @LindseyGrahamSC, @JDVance, @marcorubio, @realDonaldTrump, @SecRubio, @kajakallas, @vonderleyen, @RepJoeWilson, @RepTroyNehls, @RepMcCaul, @DeptofWar, @PeteHegseth, @RepGregoryMeeks, @HouseForeign, @StateDept_NEA, @POTUS, @EmmanuelMacron, @USAMBTurkiye, @jeremycorbyn, @CENTCOM, @DavidLammy, @TRobinsonNewEra

Almost half of the SDF fighters killed in battles against IS (ISIS) were Arab, according to the SDF spox himself. But thousands more Syrian Arabs were killed fighting IS as part of opposition factions, and others were killed in massacres and as part of uprisings: hundreds, for example, were killed in the 2014 Shaitat massacre in Deir al-Zor alone. #Syria

The no-fly zone was meant to benefit all groups in northern Iraq, not turn it into a Kurdish clan ghetto where Assyrians and others are marginalized. And history, when documented honestly, does not forget." #Iraq #Syria #Assyria #Kurd #Kurds #Assyrian #Kurdish assyriapost.com/opinion-2/
