@vbspurs I'll chalk it up to women being more likely to bleach their hair, and men having the option of short hair (easier to choose to not have bad long hair).

@vbspurs I wouldn't be surprised if this whole Iran thing turns out to be a behind the scenes deal he made with the Saudis to fund his library.

@vbspurs Pretty sure he'll use the threat of investigations, fines, or regulatory actions to get corporations to fund everything. I doubt he ever got much out of MAGA other than through his scams. Remember the "made in America" Trump phone, the NFTs, and the cryptocoins?

Can you imagine if the Trump Library becomes a hotel too? That thing is going to cost billions. Even die-hard Trump fans can't donate that much. He's going to have to monetise it big time.
Jason the commenter@BXGD

@vbspurs Obviously, you'd need to wait for it to be built before you could try moving in!

Mum and I had a terrible quarrel -- about Trump. Hurtful words were exchanged. The catalyst was that awful monstrosity in Downtown Miami called the Trump Library. I decided it's time for me to put my big girl pants on and move out. Give her some space. I hope you understand.

@OneFineJay That's what they said! I have experienced painfully hot stearing wheels, but they cool pretty quick, at least where you hold them.

My eleven year old corolla is black with black faux leather interiors and seats. Aside from getting a new/different car and getting tint on the windows, what else can I do to help mitigate how hot it will be once I move to Florida? White seat covers?

@OneFineJay White cars have certain disadvantages as well. We can have months without a decent rain, and also "love bug season" when a type of flying insect gets splattered on your car's exterior.

@OneFineJay The native I asked, said black cars get hot enough that metal buckles burn. Good upgrades are tinted windows and ventilated seats (they cool quickly). I have seen people use those collapsible reflective things in their windows, too.

@vbspurs I used to be scared by them, then I realized I'm the top predator. If a dog wants to attack me, I'm going to go out fighting. Never had a problem with them since!

@BXGD Oh Jason, I'm sorry! But I see you retain your good humour about them. Also, hope you didn't become a mailman or delivery guy.

@vbspurs As a baby I was scarred by a dog attack, in kindergarten I was hunted by one every day walking home from the bus, bitten later, and had to walk past a very angry one as an adult. So, as with angels, there are clearly fallen ones!

People who have been bitten by dogs, obviously, not included. They have legitimate reasons.

@AutismCapital I think the France numbers are high because the government subsidizes certain cultural items for students, and they choose to spend it on manga, as any sensible person would.

🚨FUN FACT: The Japanese manga market was valued at $4.4B in 2025. Digital makes up 76% of sales, physical 14%. The US is the world's second largest market with ~$1B sold in 2025. Surprisingly FRANCE is the second largest domestic market (3rd globally) with ~$300M sold in 2025. Next up is South Korea with much smaller manga sales because of their own domestic MANHWA market (South Korean comics). Then ancillary markets are: China, LATAM, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the rest of Europe.

@bitmaelstrom And a lot of people can only think about one thing, so they can't help but attach any problem they're considering to it.

@bitmaelstrom Part of it is neither side appeared to be aware it was respected by the other, and people worrying the realization will ruin something necessary, like anime that caters to American rather than Japanese tastes. Similar to Hollywood catering to China.

@vbspurs I think there are three sources of religious authority in Islam: the Koran, known sayings and doings of Mohamed, and apocrypha, and the dog hating stuff is really heavy in the apocrypha.

@BXGD I believe that some Ha-diths mentioned cats positively as being clean.

I hate that I had to resort to Grok about this. I should've known the exact Ha-diths and such when I studied their book(s) after 9/11. But here are some reasons why dogs are such a problem in that religion.

@vbspurs Ironically, there are positive words about dogs in the Koran. There's one that faithfully watches over a group of sleepers, for a few centuries. (Cats aren't mentioned at all!)

There are few positive mentions of dogs in the Holy Bible, because dogs in general are problematic in the whole of the East. It has nothing to do with that religion. It might have to do with scarcity of food in some parts. Birds are the pets of choice in the East.
