Tools for monkeys, made with robots, used by humans. 10yrs selling enterprise software to execs who'd never open it, while the people doing the actual work got handed whatever landed on their desk. Building for the second group now. Austin, TX.

@james_xond So no voting until you have passed mandatory government education... seems legit.

Unpopular opinion but the right to vote shouldn’t be automatic. It should require passing a basic test on economics, finance, history, and how laws and public policy actually work… Pass it, you vote. Fail it, you don’t.

@clairevo Excellent read. Thanks for drafting it up. I'm still stuck in 2000s era message board (never reddit/4chan) reply guy mode. I'm working on it. My feed is curated to inspire my late night builds and I appreciate all these gems.

@308Greenfield I can only make assumptions. Seems similar to the addictive nature of incremental progress. MMORPG brain rot all over again. Marathon LOL or DOTA sessions. 22 and no one to say “goto bed.” The kid is learning what doesn’t work for him. The awareness is a good sign.

@1a1n1d1y Had a weird compaction git interaction last night that almost nuked a 2 month project. Thankfully I learned redundancy and back ups on back ups. Then Claude Code updated and wiped it's own PATH. Weird morning.

I think IQ is a bad metric for this kind of thing as it isn't accurately meaurable, aside from the plethora of issues with citing certifications. By my definition, my perspective, I am simply somewhere above average - who's perspective are we citing for assessing 'intelligence'?

How to raise a preseed: - be a fundable founder (ivy, faang, top 1% IQ + work ethic, deep industry background) - build the product yourself or with a cofounder who is all in with you - find your first customers (even if they are friends/family/coworkers or other connections) - tell a compelling story about why this problem deserves to be fixed, why you’re the best team to fix it, and a path to massive scale

@Seanfrank I want data centers and I loathe apartments, I don't talk about it though unless asked or here - for the first time. I really like my wallet and phone case. You should build data centers.

The same people who don’t want data centers don’t want apartments. They are on the wrong side. Build more everything.

The next hill I am ready to die on is that there is no breakfast food item in the United States better than a Texas Breakfast Taco. Y'all can keep your pancakes, waffles, omelets, french toast and breakfast burritos. Texas breakfast tacos are undefeated.
foley (follard)@follard

Austin has an incredible food scene and one that is so different from other US markets. Where else is the best food often served out of a trailer or food truck? Where else can you eat a Michelin star meal at a picnic table? But there is a missing piece: our bagels suck.

People have wildly different definitions for what “vibe coding” actually means. Over time I suspect it will simply become a slur.

The first piece of software I built was in 2004 for AMG data. It pulled 13f reports and parsed them for mutual fund flow tracking. My weeks were done by noon on Monday. The owner made lots of dough. I enjoyed my lunches at 6Rivers. Vibed the shit out of that one.

I'm 22 years old and Claude Code is deteriorating my brain. Every single day for the last 6 months I've had 6 to 8 Claude Code terminals open, waiting for a response just so I can hit 'enter' 75% of the time. And it's doing something to me. In convos with a couple of friends, it's been a point that's been brought up pretty frequently. None of us feel as sharp as we used to. I don't know if it's just us, or others in their 20s are feeling the same thing, but it's something I've been thinking about a lot. P.S. I know this is a problem with my reliability/usage of it, not Claude Code itself, but the effects are real nonetheless
