After nearly five years, we are saying thank you to Whitney Hu, our Director of Civic Engagement and Research, as she closes this chapter at CUFFH. We are deeply grateful for her leadership and proud of what we’ve built together, and we cannot wait to see what she builds next!

Busy and inspiring day in Albany meeting with advocates working every day to strengthen our schools, protect our environment, expand housing access, support immigrants, invest in the arts, and care for seniors. Always grateful to see Marion Waldman from @teachmykid2read and talk about expanding science-of-reading initiatives through our libraries. Great to connect with Tamara McCaw about how we can support and preserve @BAM_Brooklyn, one of Brooklyn’s cultural anchors. And a terrific meeting with Rob Solano and Ceci Sturman from @CUFFH to discuss housing stability and know-your-rights campaigns. Making sure these voices are centered is essential to delivering a just and equitable state budget.

Not pictured: meetings with @CUFFH, Brooklyn Children’s Museum, and Brooklyn Botanic Garden. All vital organizations doing essential work—and all deserve to be made whole in this year’s budget.

What’s happening in Minnesota is appalling—and unacceptable in any American city. Democrats sought common sense reforms in the Department of Homeland Security spending bill, but because of Republicans’ refusal to stand up to President Trump, the DHS bill is woefully inadequate to rein in the abuses of ICE. I will vote no. Senate Democrats will not provide the votes to proceed to the appropriations bill if the DHS funding bill is included.

Yesterday, @NYCCouncil rejected Intro 948B, an Airbnb-backed bill that would have eliminated nearly all short-term rental regulations and jeopardized tens of thousands of permanent homes for New Yorkers. This victory was made possible by the broad coalition that stood with us.

STR advocate & Int948 author Tony Lindsay yelled ‘ICE is coming’ at our members, mostly immigrant women, outside City Hall yesterday. We’ve seen ICE weaponized to instill fear & silence immigrant tenants from organizing. This behavior is vile & unacceptable and must be condemned.

At CUFFH, we believe accountability includes responsibility, growth, & care for community. We respect Cat’s decision to resign but we believe she would have served with care, thoughtfulness, & integrity. We wish her well and will continue to support her work wherever it leads.
