@OSHeartDoc @RichardHanania Many people seem to assume this is meant to vilify, but I don’t. Many, especially right wingers, will look at these numbers and see that they ~confirm we are attracting productive people to a competitive field. And they will think that’s good, because medicine is important.

@RichardHanania Looooooooonnnngggg right tail. Very long. Now do median. Then do years of training and debt accrued during said training. Then do wait times. Useless paper. The amount of garbage printed to vilify physicians in this country is becoming ridiculous.

@gran1te_mtn @tszzl They should have gotten the GoT treatment. 60 hours of screen time to really expand and savor the castle intrigue. Make hatred of the Baron really pay off. Feel Alia’s bizarreness. Understand Paul’s struggle that Herbert gives as internal monologue.

@tszzl He grows into it and it works. Really the only major issue with the movies is the casting and rewriting of Chani.

the dune movies were doomed from the start to be good and not great due to the casting of chalamet as paul. he does not have the gravitas for a child-god and is much better suited for kind of silly coming of age movies

They’re calling Dune Part Three the epic conclusion because they don’t have the courage to film part four where a giant man-worm smashes Momoa clones for 3500 years

Twitter is second nature to us terminally online, so it's easy to forget that the average normie probably only knows the tweets for Dril and one or two Lindymans. And Landshark, of course. Of course.

🚨 🚨 BRAKING 🚨 🚨 This one is tough to even type out. Oscar-winning actor Chuck Norris has past away. The most important and talented actor in world history, Chuck’s movies grossed more than those starring non-American actors combined He is an American icon, and his record for Oscars will likely never be broken We miss you, sir

🚨NEW: This guy got a PhD for interviewing 8 music therapy professors chosen through "purposive expert sampling" (i.e., completely non-random) and cramming as many woke buzzwords as possible into his dissertation title before reaching the character limit.

Compared to men, women tend to have a relatively longer index fingers than ring fingers. As it turns out, the hands of lesbians and gay men are shifted towards the opposite sex, such that gay men tend to have relatively longer index fingers and lesbians have longer ring fingers.

David Roberts is adamant that the only reason the issue of transgender girls playing in girls’ sports has any salience with the public is because right-wing media manufactured a moral panic about this. In Roberts’ view, no one became concerned about this issue organically.

@benryanwriter Always worth a look. Sometimes editors will debase themselves by letting -studies majors ramble in the pages of a molecular biology journal. Here at least the people not making sense are properly ecologists, publishing in an ecology journal, on a plausibly relevant eco topic.

NEW PAPER: There is No Consensus on Biological Sex The authors include Andy Lee, PhD (he/they) of Perdue; Madeline Eppley (they/them), a PhD candidate at Northeastern; and Ally Swank, MS (they them), a PhD student at Boston U. "There is ongoing scientific and societal discourse on the definition of biological sex. At this critical moment when misinformation about sex is being applied to policy globally, scientific clarification is valuable. Here, we evaluate the primary approaches to defining sex and synthesise the active discourse to conclude that there is no current consensus on a definition of sex that is free of assumptions and limitations. While there is no current consensus, we do not advocate for a single definition and contend that a lack of unanimity is not inherently problematic. No matter what definitional choices are used, we provide actionable recommendations to improve accuracy when describing sex. Most importantly, regardless of scientific debates, no biological definition of sex should be used to dictate human rights. "Lack of unanimity on how to define sex is not inherently problematic and we contend that a universal definition is not necessary to pursue. Scientists should be specific and clear when discussing sex and sex-related traits to advance more accurate science and discussions. Active debate and discourse lead to better understandings of complex biological diversity. Regardless of how sex is defined, research that documents and describes the diversity and variation of sex in nature should and will continue in biology (Aanen et al. 2016). Our ultimate goal is to prompt critical thinking and discussion about how we operationalise sex in research, encourage consideration of the ethical and political implications of defining sex and urge acknowledgment that there is no current consensus on a single definition of sex. Most importantly, we assert that biology should not dictate human rights." Methinks @SwipeWright will have some thoughts...
