Talarico is like Walz. He codes as “moderate” and masculine the way upper class white women feel most comfortable with masculinity. Which is being completely weak, feckless, and talking about how “Jesus heckin loves migrants and abortion” It’s just poison for real people
Sean T at RCP@SeanTrende

It's worth exploring why this stuff (Talarico's Vegan Campaign) matters. Talarico has a lot of things going for him but if he has a superpower, its that he codes as "Moderate Normal Dude." It's (partly) why people thought (wrongly) he was more moderate than Crockett. 1/

@Cernovich The people skeptical of a Tucker Carlson/Joe Kent ticket aren’t the ones who need to spend more time offline

A Tucker Carlson / Joe Kent ticket would steam roll anything Democrats or Republicans could bring. It's laughable when people try to argue this with me. Spend some time offline. Good looking, physically fit white men are back "in."

@byrne_a “OUP should note,” I wrote, “that quality control in this area of philosophy is not working.” Indeed. Glad it to have it in the new P&PA, anyway!

Here's what Columbia PhD students say about Jews and Israelis behind closed doors.🧵Since 10/7, grad students in the union have: - Convinced @Columbia's anthropology dept. to NOT discipline instructors for discrimination if it's Palestine-related (#10 below) - Said Persian Jews were "one of the most fascist" demographics in America (#17) - Shot down a resolution to condemn "anti-Israeli hatred" and national origin discrimination because "I don't want to normalize Israel as a 'nation state' " (#12) - Complained about "Zionist arbitrators" inside Columbia's anti-discrimination office during workplace retaliation cases (#11) - Openly discussed going "on the offensive" inside classrooms and doing "teach-ins in our classes" on Palestine (#10) - Said they were "very tempted" to try to claim a piece of Columbia's $21 million antisemitism settlement fund, even though this student was not Jewish (#16) These PhD students have current or past research and teaching positions at Columbia, including with undergrads. If you think you've seen all the antisemitism, pro-terror, and anti-Israel activity from Columbia there is to see, buckle up. I've reported some of this in @TheFP previously, but here's a fuller picture. 🧵As Columbia's grad students geared up to strike, the United Auto Workers—their parent union—told them to cut the "crazy shit." But they're still asking for BDS/divestment from Israel, demanding the end of the Tel Aviv University dual degree and Tel Aviv global center, and more. Union leaders and UAW also fear that a dispute with Columbia could lead the National Labor Relations Board to decertify grad student unions nationwide. New in @TheFP

Catholic University denied a student group’s event on antisemitism for not including speakers on “both sides” of the issue. Forcing a group to host a speaker they oppose is textbook compelled speech, and FIRE is pushing back.

Paul Ehrlich provides us with staggeringly certain, practically dispositive evidence that peer review allows basic, critical mistakes to be published with the imprimatur of the establishment.

This from Paul Ehrlich will make you think "If I'm always wrong so is science, since my work is always peer-reviewed, including the POPULATION BOMB and I've gotten virtually every scientific honor." Link in reply

NEW: Emails released by the House Education Committee show that Qatar pressed American universities with satellite campuses in Doha to coordinate their messaging with the regime in the days following Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, attack. University officials were instructed to “be aligned” to ensure “information sharing and no surprises,” @CAndersonMO reports.

Before hordes of angry people descend on me, this is very tongue-in-cheek. I really hated this paper when I last read it in my undergrad because I was very sympathetic to a lot of the philosophers Anscombe dislikes (esp. R.M. Hare).
