Studying the history, theory, and practice of classical liberalism.

I read the first hundred pages of The Road last year, and read the first hundred pages of Blood Meridian this year, and in both instances, gave up, because the books never clicked. Lyrical writing, but the characters are reduced to way down Maslow's hierarchy, and the tone is so relentlessly bleak, with almost no humanity breaking through, it was difficult to feel anything besides the flint clicking against the cold steel in the overwhelming darkness. I know many of you love it, but to me, it's overwrought, overstylized, and overhyped.

It's worth exploring why this stuff (Talarico's Vegan Campaign) matters. Talarico has a lot of things going for him but if he has a superpower, its that he codes as "Moderate Normal Dude." It's (partly) why people thought (wrongly) he was more moderate than Crockett. 1/

Small point: Biden says he got to appoint the first Black supreme court justice. Thurgood Marshall was appointed in 1967. Biden entered the Senate in 1973. What am I missing or misread?

"A Narrowing Gate" - NEW REPORT on Jewish enrollment at Harvard and its peers, 1967-2025. Harvard has been cut in half - from ~14% to 7%. Penn fell similarly. Yale declined ~42%. But at Brown it grew. At Cornell it held. At Princeton it barely moved. harvardjewishalumni.org/jewish-enrollm…

🧵As Columbia's grad students geared up to strike, the United Auto Workers—their parent union—told them to cut the "crazy shit." But they're still asking for BDS/divestment from Israel, demanding the end of the Tel Aviv University dual degree and Tel Aviv global center, and more. Union leaders and UAW also fear that a dispute with Columbia could lead the National Labor Relations Board to decertify grad student unions nationwide. New in @TheFP

This from Paul Ehrlich will make you think "If I'm always wrong so is science, since my work is always peer-reviewed, including the POPULATION BOMB and I've gotten virtually every scientific honor." Link in reply

Oh golly, I cannot wait until my next Legal Profession class. I *will* be modifying the syllabus to address this unauthorized practice by a law professor.
