This book took me 14 years.
It was first agented in 2011. Then again in 2019. And again in 2023.
Years of rewrites. Years of trying repeatedly to get this story right. And when I finally did…THAT’S what brought satisfaction.
My confusion: AI use would never bring satisfaction.
@literarylucille@ta_toft In my first manuscript I was an overwriter and I saw how much "pain" that caused me to bring it to shape. Now, I'm trying to be as close to 90-95K as possible.
Bad news:
A mutual has been hacked (or maybe they were always a fake) and the scammers are attempting to snag me in DMs.
PSA:
Don't click on those damn links, ever.

I HAVE A BOOK DEAL???
Yes, that's right - I HAVE A BOOK DEAL!! For Bone Dust, which is now titled "HEART OF BONE"! I could not be more ecstatic to share this news with you all, and I owe a massive thanks to my agent @REstepLit and everyone who helped make this happen!
@atlasjlively@Storyzville Hey there, Atlas! I'm working on my second manuscript, a weird mix of epic, dark fantasy and psychological horror (I wonder how I'm going to query that 🤣)
@Kacey_Combs I stick to one, Kacey. When I get to write a story I immerse myself totally inside the world and the protagonists. It's not that easy to me to switch perspectives...
Do you switch back and forth from your current work to another WIP, or do you stick to one?
How many ideas do you have for future novels?

My query stats are objectively good. 41 queries sent. Four fulls still out, 1 partial, 1 manuscript with a pub editor for feedback and possible referral. It’s good and still *so hard*.
Somebody, pinch me.
I did it.
I signed something ✨vague✨ !
I can’t share the details quite yet, but what I can say, is I am beyond thrilled! Hard work and perseverance DOES pay off, friends!

I have grown to dislike the word hobby. My writing has been referred to as a hobby because it doesn't pull in hundreds of dollars.
I am writing books because it is my purpose. I want it to be a career. I am willing to spend months on a single manuscript. TV has been replaced by books.
Writing isn't a hobby. It's my life.
So I’m sitting in my car at my son’s baseball practice yesterday - windows down, enjoying the sun, computer in my lap while I edit.
I realize when this lady walks by eyeing me, that I’ve been acting out dialogue for several characters way too loud as I edit.
Pretty sure the entire team thinks I’m bananas. 🤣
Al “writers” are an insult:
I was writing for a decade before my writing paid one bill.
To write I stole time away from other jobs, time from my family, bleary eyed and full of love for the work.
The stories *are* the effort. Without the squeeze your juice isn’t even juice.
