Honest question ... how do people see images like this & say Tesla is building these but there are no customers buying them? I got very strange comments on my images today from people who seem to genuinely believe these are being made but not being bought. Just curious how this is the conclusion these people assume.

@raywongy Appreciate this post. Building is hard and the hardware itself looks nice. I think the tough part for me was that they couldn’t explain the problem they’re trying to solve. There was no customer pain that they were hitting on. It felt too high brow

Consumers: Everything is just an app and they are so boring now. Why is there no new hardware? Startups: Here’s a cool new and futuristic AI-powered device that does computing differently. Give it a shot! Consumers: Why isn’t this just an app for my phone? I really don’t get it. Why are you guys always complaining about progress and change and innovation? My phone is very important, but there’s room in my life for multiple devices. It’s not a one device takes all game. Never was and never will be. I do not know if @Humane Ai Pin will be good or not. Whether consumers will embrace or shun their values and what they’re selling. But what they’re doing is at least interesting and exciting. They’re trying instead of accepting the status quo. You cannot hate on trying and ambition. Especially in tech. Not every new device needs to fit into your life and use case. Computing is more personal than ever before. Choice and variety is what life is all about. Otherwise it’s just dystopia. Obsessive brand loyalty is overrated. Think different.

I used 3 gallons of gas to get from the dealer to my house, 60 miles. That’s about $10 in gas. $10 in electricity gets me 600 miles in the Lightning. Why do people still prefer ICE?!?

Current AI marketing doesn’t hit on customer problems. Asking it to “give you recommendations for a local restaurant” will never work because people want choices to make the right decision. Asking it to “help you improve a speech” solves a deep personal need.

@jeremyjudkins_ Great review. No one doubts how good Elon is at making great products, but this is hard and it’s important to point out pros and cons

I'm watching people on extreme ends of the spectrum fighting over Tesla FSD Beta. Both the super bears and super bulls. My very level headed opinion on Tesla FSD: -It does work very well. Better than any other consumer based driver assistance feature. Currently city streets is just a fun thing to play with. It's really impressive, but it doesn't reduce driver fatigue. It kinda adds stress at the moment. BUT it is getting better, especially with FSD Beta 12.3. Autopilot on the highway is nearly perfect though, and makes long road trips very easy. -Speaking of autopilot, it's actually embarrassing that the Cybertruck would be launched without basic Autopilot. What is the reasoning it is taking so long? They have had YEARS to work on this. It's a very vital feature of a Tesla. I am willing to forgive them though, because the Cybertruck is so cool, and it's actually very fun and very easy to drive. However on a long road trip, I would probably start to get annoyed. -I think the name Full Self Driving capability is a fine name. I don't think it's misleading when you are paying for it. The only thing I find misleading is that Tesla allows you to pay $6000 for enhanced autopilot when it doesn't come with summon, smart summon, or auto park. If you buy FSD for $12,000 it says it includes enhanced autopilot features. But it mentions nothing about this until AFTER you put down the $250 non refundable order fee. I think Tesla didn't anticipate it taking over a year to solve Tesla Vision with these features, it's been "coming soon" with V12 for awhile now. Hopefully they finally solve this so I can shut up about it. -It is unfortunate that people have paid anywhere between $5000-$15000 for FSD and the price of that was never properly calculated when doing a trade in with Tesla. We are expected to keep our vehicle for a decade or two while Tesla makes it perfect? I appreciate them making FSD transferable, but it's been totally random, so many people, including myself never got to take advantage of this offer. Keep in mind Elon posted about smart summon being able to summon a vehicle across the entire United States... in 2016! No wonder people were willing to pay so much money. I paid $6,000 one time. And then $10,000 another time. Never again. The $200 a month subscription is fine, and you can cancel it whenever you want. So you can play with FSD Beta for a month and then cancel and then pay again when you think it's worth trying out again. An even better deal is just using referral credits and getting it for "free." Everything Elon has hyped up as EVENTUALLY come true, but sometimes the timelines are wildly inaccurate. I don't doubt Tesla will be FULLY self driving one day. Who knows when tho.

@tejask Car mechanics have “book time” for things like this. Same idea though, master mechanics shouldn’t be penalized for being efficient

I recently spoke to an engineer who mentioned he doesn’t bill contracts hourly but per project. I asked why and he said “I don’t want to be penalized for being efficient”. I found this to be astonishing and have been thinking about this ever since.
