@JoshLipnik I’m not a landscaper, but I think it’s a series of pygmy date palms that are a significant age to get that big. If I’m wrong someone please correct me.

@Mileage_impo Aesthetically, whether a car is garaged or parked outside becomes extremely apparent within a few years, particularly in hot/sunny climates. Headlight yellowing, clear coat burning off, plastics getting brittle, etc.

Mileage tells you how far a car has traveled. Condition tells you how it was treated. A car that covered long highway distances with proper maintenance can age better than a low-mileage car that was neglected.

@DadInvest I just vote no on almost every “say on pay” and vote against sketchy auditors or fishy governance changes … it’s pointless in 99.9% of cases though. It only seems like contested proxies even begin to matter.

@HedgeDirty For me it’s more about figuring out how I can get them educated on how to manage assets and/or vet advisers effectively so they don’t get fleeced by some con man someday or ever let themselves get over-concentrated.

The central anxiety of professional class parenting is managing the dueling imperatives of providing a wholesome and supportive home for mental/emotional/spiritual health and exposing the brutally competitive reality of the standard they have to meet to avoid downward mobility
Dirty Texas Hedge@HedgeDirty

@dollarsanddata The purpose is to socialize a 98th percentile student out of "I'm smarter than everyone so I can coast" into "I will have to hustle to compete with these people, and hustle even harder to outcompete the people who start with more money and better connections than me"

@nequalonetrader These are increíble times to be in private credit for those firms that have domain expertise and do real DD. Those funds are going to have incredible performance over the next few years as spreads widen further.

The folks I have met on private credit side have all been entitled, pompous and arrogant while every person I have met on hedgefund side (trading mainly) is humble, intelligent and open to feedback. I had multiple interactions with $OWL and their team and it was clear that they were taking on way too much risk without doing DD. That’s why I have kept saying that it’s a short on here. Ultimately, private credit will be the sector that will bring down this economy.

“I literally think all the marks are wrong.” “Joe Software Company is going to recover somewhere between 20 and 40 cents.” “I kind of sense an arrogance of the people who grew up in the private-markets business.” This is Apollo’s John Zito. On tape. Saying what everyone in credit knows but nobody will say on Bloomberg TV.

@BladeCunningham There has to be someone with advanced stats on this. It seems like when teams do it at the end of games it usually fails. But if there was an element of suprise, maybe? Jordan would run down the lane a few times a year and no one ever blocked him out; he got some famous slams.

Dumb Basketball Idea: I think intentionally missing free throws in order to get an offensive rebound is one of the most under-utilized tactics available and should be used at least a couple times per game.

@KarstResearch I don’t even think I can trade them. They just sit in one of my accounts greyed-out. I sold most of my Yahoo/Altaba many years ago, but I had been in it since the 90s and it was a big stock for me so I held on to some shares to the bitter end out of sentimentality.

@shortbus_ace The museum there is also amazing. My grandfather went back and visited decades after the landings and all the locals they met were deeply grateful and appreciative. Seeing the tremendous respect the French had for veterans like him gave me a deeper appreciation for France.
