Lemme ask one of those tone deaf economist questions that annoy almost everyone. Today, many families learned that the amount they owe on their mortgage has declined—in real terms—by 9.1% over the past year. Why do we hear so little about this? Why don't we see folks celebrating?

gn - "Into The Inferno," shot on iPhone during the Saddleridge Fire, 2019 on a shuttered freeway in LA. Been sleeping a lot lately, slowly gaining my strength back. The firestorms of the future are here now, and it's going to be all hands on deck. Welcome to the Pyrocene.

Great piece by @AlexMStark on US relations in Gulf. US job is to manage relationships and advocate for US interests. When junior partners want the opposite of what their more powerful partner wants then it’s not a relationship problem, it’s a divergence.

All eyes understandably on Ukraine, but other policy challenges persist. @dahliasc @CenturyIntl reports how Abraham Accords exacerbate ills they're supposed to address — and how to salvage progressive policy goals from the Accords. tcf.org/content/report…

It's been 10 years since we lost Anthony Shadid. I miss him every day. But some of his brilliance lives on — so many people mentored by Anthony who today practice his ethics, his tenacious reporting, his storytelling. worldpoliticsreview.com/trend-lines/30…

Without good governance Iraq and entire world is vulnerable to the next ISIS. US has a role: rebuilding what it bombs & supporting reconciliation. This is the long game—for Iraq, counterterrorism & rights, I argue in a new report for @CenturyIntl tcf.org/content/report…

Yikes. Like I always used to tell my Critical Terrorism Studies students — — the Endless War on Terror always told us as much out “us” as it did about “them.” And “over there” always comes back home, eventually. #Gitmo

The moment when you unbox the first copies of your new, finished book. Born in Blackness has been long in the making but it won't be long now in the waiting. It's due out on October 12.
