@ASSCnews I asked a friend once, how many people work at Edinburgh council? He told me the last he had heard it was about a third of them.

@SimonCalder Loath though I am to say “I told you so”, shutting down all the professional holiday let operators to create a vast unregulated black market was always going to end badly.

@FabulousFidel @rock_shamrock @Edinburgh_CC @oasis @liamgallagher @NoelGallagher @mainlyoasis @OasisMania @jk_rowling @SaveSCScotland @ASSCnews All funds that went to judicial reviews sat in lawyers own accounts. It never went anywhere outside of this.
STL Solutions completely separate, but has ultimately led to them initiating JR3 so far spending around 20 days of input for on this case for free.
English

@FabulousFidel @rock_shamrock @Edinburgh_CC @oasis @liamgallagher @NoelGallagher @mainlyoasis @OasisMania @jk_rowling @SaveSCScotland @ASSCnews 50% approximately went to JR2 after expenses repaid. This allowed everyone to continue to operate without automatic requirement for planning permission. Otherwise most would have to close over a year ago. The remainder was used (after vote with supporters) for further legals .

All donations welcome to help us get justice & end the continuing destruction of self-catering businesses, or even just to annoy the smug @Edinburgh_CC councillors who mocked @oasis fans! @liamgallagher @NoelGallagher @mainlyoasis @OasisMania @jk_rowling @SaveSCScotland @ASSCnews

Would you smile by causing the arrogant Greens dismay? Staninforth, Booth, Parker, Mumford & Rae, Then, PLEASE support our JR3 on its way, And donate to the ASSC's legal challenge today! @SaveSCScotland @ASSCnews @FionaCampbell74 @Edinburgh_CC Let's make it the TRIPLE win! 🏆

@BBCandrewpicken The data in your article is incorrect. There are nowhere near 9000 “airbnbs” in Edinburgh. (BBC brand advertising?) If there was, there wouldn’t be the extremely prices currently seen. The reality is around 2000, under 1% of all housing stock and not enough to meet demand.
English

We welcome @Ivan_McKee recognises that with the #VisitorLevy, “The key issue is the charging model, especially for small businesses. We are hearing loud and clear the concerns of industry”
@SigCon25 @st_alliance @ASSCnews

English

@PLACEEdinburgh The ASSC does not advocate to remove homes. 0.6% of property in Edinburgh is available for short term self catering use - the ASSC advocates to meet this demand. Lack of homes and rents are due to a lack of home building. When more homes are delivered, prices/ rents decrease.

English

While it is great for charities that support people in poverty, it seems ironic that an organisation that advocates to remove homes from the available housing stock, shown to push up rents, which then forces more people into poverty, should donate to such charities.

Strange - No rent controls or short term let controls required?
“But a development boom and new policies encouraging *housing density* have sent vacancy rates soaring.”

When I was 10 year old I witnessed a neighbour and local Scout leader being blown up and set on fire at a firework display. Luckily he survived but was blinded and permanently disfigured. This incident has stayed with me and I have never been a fan of fireworks. These days the ASB element is the main driver for change however we need to remember that currently we are putting explosives in the hands of amateurs and accepting the associated risks and consequences. I fully support a complete ban on the public sale of fireworks in Scotland.
The City of Edinburgh Council@Edinburgh_CC
Council Leader Cammy Day has today repeated his calls for a complete ban on the public sale of fireworks and tougher sentences for those misusing them and causing public disorder. Read more: edinburgh.gov.uk/news/article/1…
English

@Gfunk_710 @cllr_jenkinson Very different problem. Unintentional accidents as described can also occur, they are probably something we can do without with the caveat we have good public displays.
English

@cllr_jenkinson Great, let's ban them because a few arseholes can't behave. Why don't we ban alcohol then as it's causes more problems than fireworks.
English

@cllr_jenkinson Makes sense. Having lived in Sydney for some time I don’t recall anyone having a need to buy fireworks or making an issue of not being able to buy them. Yet fantastic public displays all year round.

This does not include privately owned properties. So the total number of empty properties across the city is MUCH higher.
Cockburn Association (The Edinburgh Civic Trust)@thecockburn
8000 empty properties in the city? Where are these? Why can't they be brought back into use?
English

@ClareEdinburgh @cllrcammyday @Edinburgh_CC @SaveSCScotland Fantastic event - our community is stronger than ever in the fight against the unlawful blanket ban being forced on self-caterers! Never giving in to the injustice! Fantastic to speak to the amazing @FionaCampbell74 & @Edinburgh_flex - inspirational @SaveSCScotland @Ivan_McKee
English

@rock_shamrock @ClareEdinburgh @cllrcammyday @Edinburgh_CC @SaveSCScotland @FionaCampbell74 @Ivan_McKee Thanks for coming. Good to see everyone in person for a change. 120 attendees
English

Lol, @cllrcammyday really?! Shutting down self-catering units is not managing anything except promoting a black market. @Edinburgh_CC blanket ban on self-catering properties prices out families wanting to stay in the city & he knows this! @SaveSCScotland
English

@theSpurtle @NickSherrard @oldtownrez @thecockburn Short term lets being a reason for lack of housing has been debunked, when only 0.8% of dwellings are STLs. What is severely impacting housing is nimbyism and misguided policies discouraging investment. An anti tourism agenda is an extension of this.
scottishhousingnews.com/uploads/Econom…
English

@theSpurtle @NickSherrard @oldtownrez @thecockburn As David has pointed out, claims of ‘hollowed out communities’ are false. The Old Town will always be a tourist draw, there happens to be a giant castle there. Claims by them and others that they are looking for ‘balance’ appear to be disingenuous when data not used or collected

Total rubbish to infer zero hour contracts etc, they are self employed local to Edinburgh females who value the flexible working hours during school hours. They earn around £25-£30 an hour.

@AngusNeilson1 @GildedLily13 @Edinburgh_CC @scotgov @SaveSCScotland No let's call it what it actually is. You can add 🇺🇦 into the mix as well. None with any job security none paid more than minimum wage.

The woman who runs our cleaning and concierge agency is giving up because of the uncertainty over STL legislation. She is passing her business to an agency with owners based overseas. Did you plan to put Edinburgh people out of jobs @Edinburgh_CC and @scotgov ?
