This recommendation isn’t the whole issue. 4M People didn’t buy the Steam Deck just because it was affordable. They also had access to their Steam library on the go. They could’ve bought a ROG Ally or a Legion Go, both of which are more powerful. While I understand price is definitely important, you can’t assume that is all players are looking for. - Where is your library of games at? - Do you care about specs? - Do you care to pay for online play or no? - Do deep discounts on games entice you, over online Plus programs and subscription services? When you do the math, adding monthly or yearly subscription fees, and less often discounts on games overtime; you’re still paying more for a console than you would a Steam Machine. Ask yourself how much you’ve paid for Game Pass or PlayStation Plus for just this generation alone, and add that to the cost of the hardware…. Now compare that to the straight up cost of the Steam Machine… @Steam

Linus Tech Tips says the PS5 is a better option than the Steam Machine at their current price points "You can still buy a PS5 for $600 or a PS5 Pro, which is a much more powerful machine, for $900 ... and both include a controller"

@Eeevee_ @N1ght_Livit @SirActionSlacks You can easily fit a 15L case under a TV or in a entertainment system. It is a bad product. It is a product that just got released that can't play the currently released games. We don't owe loyalty to valve. It is a bad product. They got greedy

@S1ntho @hung_o93178 @NormBreaker3 Why do you need a $1000 dollar device to play 33% of your steam library worse than an actual pc i genuinely dont get it

@G00BLEG00BLE @N1ght_Livit @SirActionSlacks No they're not, but they're also not gaining anything on the hardware. they also have contracts pre ram price hike. try fitting a decent gpu in a 6x6x6 box, with acoustics as decent as the steam cube. a better equivalent is not pc part picker, give me a mini itx prebuilt.

@SpoonieSexer I had truly not considered the space savings between a mid-tower and this cube as the primary reason for needing a Steam Machine. I still cannot wrap my head around that.

@G00BLEG00BLE @N1ght_Livit @SirActionSlacks This is twice the size though, people pay extra for that. Also it's a business remember? When you sell your build? Do you not account for the labor? Do you sell it as is.

@G00BLEG00BLE @N1ght_Livit @SirActionSlacks At retail price? Without sales? And that small? Not loud aswell? Also you have to pay the to actually build it. It's a business they don't have to sell at a loss. Good for you, you actually know how to build a pc but the average person just wants it delivered to their door

@N1ght_Livit @SirActionSlacks actually you don't. I worked at a refurbishing center for year and a half. I have built and repaired over 2000 pcs and dealt with suppliers. If I can build a pc for $1000 that will almost double cubes performance right now so can valve with their bulk deals.

@SMOOTHIIl @Tupochniii14 @4Axis_ Yeah that's true, never argued against that. ngl just make your own pc it'll take some effort but if you find most of the components on sale then you can build something a lot better

@Eeevee_ @Tupochniii14 @4Axis_ True. At least for those who Whats it It’s not ideal for anyone who thinks it’s a pc or a console. There’s many options with good price than steam machine. Like a gaming laptop.

@SMOOTHIIl @NotHuman20020 @4Axis_ You realize that there are people that bought the controller for their pc right? And those people can buy the steam cube aswell right? As I said the controller can run on any platforms that can run steam, it's not Steam Cube exclusive

@Eeevee_ @NotHuman20020 @4Axis_ Valid points. But i brought the controller first and then didn’t like the console price. True it’s good for people who bought it first Yet. Why releasing it first? Now I’m stuck with the controller only And I don’t wanna buy the console. It’s My fault but also their as well

@DAKKADAKKA1 Yes, but you can't play almost all online games, modern games with high system requirements, and you'll play other games at 25 fps in 1080p, right after you buy a controller 😉

@SMOOTHIIl @Tupochniii14 @4Axis_ This is the same reason why valve said that it's a product for those who want it. You'll know if you actually tried to buy a prebuilt PC on retail price. it's 20%-30% more expensive. Not to mention it's only 6 inches wc is equivalent to a mini itx that adds another 150-200$

@Eeevee_ @Tupochniii14 @4Axis_ Nah. Ik but it’s a ridiculous mini pc at this price 1128$ is too much for its performance You can easily get better pc. And if we consider it a console, still, same problem with the price.

@SMOOTHIIl @Tupochniii14 @4Axis_ Retail price man, have you seen ram prices nowadays? The same reason why the steam deck raised it's price by 300$ The price would be 800$ if the price hike didn't happen. Sony can sell on a loss because people pay them subscriptions, valve can't do that. That's why expensive

@SMOOTHIIl @NotHuman20020 @4Axis_ Idk man you're probably just slow. I said a lot of people did buy the controller already = not you. They want that option = not you. Just use whatever controller you have, it works, it's steam. They're selling components as is retail price, it's just that expensive nowadays

@Eeevee_ @NotHuman20020 @4Axis_ Why it’s a fuckin opinion in the first place? And why would I buy the controller in the first place before the console? Plus I don’t wanna pay extra The console itself is already on a ridiculous price.

@SMOOTHIIl @Tupochniii14 @4Axis_ Not really that much of a console, it more of a mini pc shaped as a console. Remember Steam OS is linux based, it's basically a linux pc just optimized to run steam. Pc ≠ windows just so you know

@Eeevee_ @Tupochniii14 @4Axis_ Which is not. That’s a console not a pc. If it was a mini pc it will be understandable. But it’s not. And so as Xbox and ps5 I can use mouse and keyb but Whats the reason for that? Unless it’s a shooter game

Linus Tech Tips believes the PS5 offers better value than the new Steam Machine at current prices. According to Linus, a $600 PS5 or $900 PS5 Pro is a better buy than a $1,049 Steam Machine, especially since both PlayStation consoles include a controller. “You can still buy a PS5 for $600 or a PS5 Pro for $900… and both include a controller.” — Linus Tech Tips

@SMOOTHIIl @Tupochniii14 @4Axis_ It's not a paywall it's just extra. You're just not the target audience for the one without the controller, you can use with a mouse and keeb or any other spare controller you have, steam input is there for a reason. It's like buying a PC and calling peripherals a paywall.

@Tupochniii14 @4Axis_ Bro read the first few words. They’re greedy as fuck but they didn’t dare take an important feature of their console out and lock it behind paywall. Why do we excuse a company that did something stupid and talk about the other one? Why not talking shit about both?

@SMOOTHIIl @NotHuman20020 @4Axis_ Then buy the bundle with the controller? It's optional for a reason Also the steam controller released a few months earlier than the console itself so a lot of people already have the controller, so it just makes sense that they include the option to buy without the controller.

@mossy98_ @LabRatKnatz @k1rallik 42 million concurrent users and somehow casuals don't use it because they're playing COD and Fortnite 😭 Ts is so funny I can't Majority of casuals don't really play multiplayer games, they play single player story games or arcade, steam have most of these type of games.

> be Steam Machine > tiny black cube, 6 inches wide > made by Valve, the Steam and Half-Life people > basically a prebuilt gaming PC for your TV > plug in, grab a gamepad, done > runs SteamOS, not Windows > plays your whole Steam library > no fee to play online, unlike PlayStation > six times stronger than a Steam Deck > AMD Zen 4 chip, RDNA 3 graphics, 16GB RAM > aims for 1440p and even 4K > console simplicity, PC freedom > Valve wants your living room again a PlayStation you actually own, that plays everything you already bought

🚨 VALVE JUST PRICED THE STEAM MACHINE AT $1,049 The Steam Machine is finally real and you can sign up right now. But there's a catch - it's a lottery, not a checkout. Valve admits its original price target is dead, killed by the AI memory crisis. - 512GB starts at $1,049, the 2TB jumps to $1,349 - Adding a Steam Controller costs just $79 instead of the usual $99 - You join a list before June 25, then it gets randomized - First purchase emails go out June 29, the rest may wait until 2027 A $1,049 cube that you have to win the right to buy.
