@LawyerDave1 I disagree as anyone entering the US gets screened and anyone entering a large venue also gets screened. We’ve seen too many movies where the bad guys are seemingly the nicest people in the world.

The idea American sports don't prioritize winning and don't punish losing is something people only people entirely uninvolved in American sports could agree with. If anything, the stereotype of Americans is that we are overcompetitive to the point of it being counterproductive.
USMNT Only@usmntonly

Mauricio Pochettino said that ‘American sports reward losers’ when asked about the style of play in top European nations vs. in the U.S. 😯🇺🇸 QUESTION: “We know how England, France, Spain play… Players from countries with a strong tradition have a recognizable style. What is the style of the US team? What kind of football do the Americans want to play?” ANSWER: “Their culture is playful. They want to play. We told them, “Guys, playing soccer is one thing, competing is another.” They’re two completely different sports. They grow up in a culture of playing. Why? If you start in MLS and you haven’t won a game in three months and you’re at the bottom, what’s the consequence if there’s no promotion or relegation, no international competition? American sports reward losers! But soccer is different: if you reward those who don’t win… If you don’t have goals, you don’t fight. If I lose, what happens? Nothing. They just fire the coach. Also, the American player is disciplined. But with a sense of complacency that isn’t good in soccer. It took us a year and a half to change that mentality.” [EL PAIS]

@RickPetree Ok Rick, seeing as you haven’t gotten any meaningful response to your tweet I’d say maybe not many other people feel that way. Cuz you know, if someone says something on X then it HAS to be true.

Few events rivet the world’s attention like the World Cup. The whole world is watching as the U.S. shows its ugliest, most authoritarian face. The damage to our international reputation is huge and will have lasting effects on inward investment and tourism, among other things.

@DonteStallworth Every team that flies in gets a security check. When it’s a country that has fired missiles at other countries, including at the host, it’s more than just a hello, how are you? You do get that right? If not, what don’t you get?

I misread and thought they came in the day of the match. They actually flew in the day before, but a 5-hour tarmac delay due to U.S. security protocols only for the Iranian team denied a crucial rest period before the game. My main point about the competitive disadvantage stands.

I can’t even imagine flying into a city and playing a World Cup match on the exact same day. The U.S. government forcing this travel schedule on the Iranian team is a massive, unfair disadvantage. It’s straight-up sabotage that completely tilts the scales for their opponents!
Pamphlets@PamphletsY

🚨🇮🇷 BREAKING — World Cup “Disaster” Mohammad Mohebi and Mehri Taremi Say: “Not to Make Excuses but This Is Not a Fair Competition.” Iranian Players argued they should arrive 2 days before matches instead of traveling, training, and playing while exhausted by 5 hours in Immigration Controls and Transit.

@HenryBushnell Point of clarification here: EVERY TEAM FLIES BACK TO BASE CAMP. You’re good with Iran trying to get a chip up for the next match?

Point of clarification here: No, it's not uncommon for teams to travel back to base camps the night of a match. But Iranian players and coach specifically said they wanted to stay in LA, do a recovery session Tuesday morning, then fly back. They were told they couldn't.

Iran v. New Zealand ended around 8pm here in Los Angeles. At 10:07pm, Iran players were on a bus bound for the airport, where they'd fly back to Tijuana. World Cup organizers wouldn't let them stay and recover. “Everything is like a disaster for us," Mehdi Taremi said.

@DefiyantlyFree ODNI is a worthless and meaningless agency that is being shut down. Nobody in the IC gives it any credibility.

Laura Loomer has been way ahead of this ODNI thing since day 1. I would say of everyone, she has the best idea of what’s happening. In case anyone wants to actually know what’s what. Because I personally think this ODNI is one of the most important moments for the administration right now.

@LauraLoomer is exactly right to note every confirmed appointee NEEDS the benefit of an unconfirmed, temporary predecessor such as @pulte who performs the unpleasant but vital chore of firing the anti-Trump Deep Staters. Sadly, that tried and true approach of the interim and acting appointees laying the groundwork for their successors has NOT been followed at the “Department of Injustice” (quoting Trump). That’s the principal reason why so many of the deranged Democrat hacks and corrupt scum (quoting the @POTUS) who were prosecutors in the Biden DOJ are still on DOJ’s payroll, preserving and perpetuating their misconduct, and obstructing Trump’s orders regarding lawfare accountability and restitution.

Maybe they are afraid their collusion with some of the people currently working at ODNI will be exposed for their sabotage and leaking. Hopefully Pulte @pulte can start on Monday. Lots of firings are needed at ODNI. It would be a huge favor to Jay Clayton, if he is confirmed.

TULSI GABBARD DID SUCH A GREAT JOB REDUCING THE BLOAT OF ODNI, BUT SHOULD IT SHOULD BE CLOSED DOWN! There is proof that the DNI is unnecessary is obvious. Bill Pulte was appointed as acting director of national intelligence - Who should take his place if anyone should. As a for instance - we watched John Ratcliffe served effectively as the president’s principal intelligence adviser. He gave President Trump actionable intelligence without ODNI’s layers of bureaucracy or the biased old guard. Director Ratcliffe of the CIA is all President Trump needs as his intelligent official and can coordinate the Intelligence Community as needed - There is no need for the bloated ODNI staff. Of course, this is just my opinion based on what has been read written by those who are in the frey.

I don’t like the way the U.S. is treating Iran’s national soccer team for multiple reasons: 1. It comes off as petty and vindictive. These are professional athletes, not IRGC psychos who would threaten security. 2. Putting unique burdens on their team ruins one of the best things about international sports—the level playing field. 3. It makes the average Iranian think the U.S. is the bad guy and hands the regime a free propaganda victory. This is not the way to show the people of Iran the U.S. is on their side. 4. It wastes a prime opportunity to develop potential intelligence assets.

@JackDunc1 - Games kicking off late is on FIFA. - ICE has nothing to do with entry into the US, that’s CBP, like any country that has a Border Patrol. - Which countries and why? - They banned a top referee for his ties to Al Shabaab. - Again, blame FIFA for water breaks.

- Every single game has kicked off late - Teams has been humiliated by ICE - Many countries fans aren't allowed to attend - They banned a top referee because he's somalian - They've ruined the flow by adding adverts disguised as water breaks to grab $$ Shall I go on or?

Genuinely asking: What has the US done wrong here? Seems like it's been a smashing success. Every game is sold out, and there have been almost no hiccups organizationally.

@smod4real You seem to be glossing over the mandatory military service part so I guess you don’t want to answer that. Yes, countries let in players from other countries that they have had geo-political issues with, but they were subject to the same screening as everyone else.

@GoNavyBeatArmy3 They’re professional athletes with well documented histories of being professional athletes. We routinely let athletes from communist countries stay in the U.S. during the Cold War, and three months ago we let the Venezuelan national baseball team into the U.S. for the WBC!

@messanglais @BrisbaneStokie @Marksism__ Ok, so what would be your ideal start times taking into account weather, time zones, and fans of the countries playing? Would love to hear how you think FIFA could have scheduled thus better.

Sorry, will be complaining about the kick off times. They don’t suck because they’re late at night. They suck because FIFA and the yanks have done some absolutely bizarre scheduling.
