To all ecologists, conservationists, and environmentally conscious citizens who claim they “don’t care about Rahul Gandhi’s politics” but insist that the destruction of forests and displacement of people in Great Nicobar must stop. This is what politics is supposed to be about. This is the politics which raises issues that touch people’s lives, protect our forests, safeguard biodiversity, and secure our climate future. It doesn’t gloss over environmental devastation in the name of reckless development to benefit a few crony capitalists. If you truly care about these things, then support the politics that actually talks about them. And oppose the brand of politics which spreads communal poison, ignores the daily struggles of Indians, and pursues power by bending every institution and trampling people’s rights. Caring about Great Nicobar means caring about the politics that defends it. It’s time to stand with Rahul Gandhi and his politics.

But in 2015, the Modi BJP government OVERRULED the Supreme Court by rushing the Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Act through Parliament. They quietly re allocated the Parsa East Kete Basan (PEKB) coal block in Hasdeo Arand the ‘Lungs of Central India’ straight back to Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd + Adani as the operator. Now see what they did to our forests:⬇️ Pristine green Hasdeo turned to barren mine crater Thousands of trees cut,,,Tribal villages displaced,,,Elephant corridors destroyed. How is the hell is this development?? Nope, this is crony capitalism Wake up, India. Our forests are being murdered in broad daylight while u keep counting masterstrokes!

yesterday read some tweets saying why are people blaming govt for heat wave.. Since 2014: 173,000 hectares forest land diverted for mining/roads/dams/infra; mining boom in dense forests (Hasdeo Arand, Aravallis, Northeast - annual loss tripled); 29,000+ illegal mining cases in Aravallis alone.. massive agri land converted to real estate (non-agri use up 8+ million ha, net sown area down 1.8M ha); unplanned urban sprawl + highways/industrial corridors in eco-zones + diluted EIA 2020 & Forest Conservation Amendment 2023 = destroyed green cover & natural cooling. Result? Deadlier urban heat islands & heat waves. That’s why.

I don't know why people are so disconnected from reality. Saw a post saying Rs 40 crores must for retirement in India. Do you know how big is Rs.40 crores? In India, only 0.04% of households have it In the richest country of the world, USA, only 4% of households have it If you take the entire world consisting of both rich and poor countries, just 0.13% of households have it. Even Rs 4 crores is difficult for 99% of the population. Saying Rs.40 crores is required for retirement only demotivate people because they can never reach there. These kind of posts at best serve as irritants.

In my opinion, If you spend 1-2 lakh/month today in a metro city for a family of 4 including education and rent/ emi, You would need roughly 8-10 crore by age 60 as a retirement corpus to live comfortably. But Sandeep Jethwani of Dezerv tells me that inflation, lifestyle creep and unexpected health costs can inflate your retirement expenses much more than you think and 8-10cr is not enough. he says a family of 4 spending 1-2 lakhs per month today need a 40cr retirement corpus in 20 years to maintain a certain lifestyle. That got me thinking about how the numbers keep getting more and more unattainable and the frustration among the youth is palpable due to lack of jobs and opportunities to grow income. Whats the solution then ? reduce your expenses, cut lifestyle creep, stop comparison and decide what your definition of enough is. Thoughts ?

I travelled through Great Nicobar today. These are the most extraordinary forests I have ever seen in my life. Trees older than memory. Forests that took generations to grow. The people on this island are equally beautiful - both the adivasi communities and the settlers - but they are being robbed of what is rightfully theirs. The government calls what it is doing here a “Project.” What I have seen is not a project. It is millions of trees marked for the axe. It is 160 square kilometres of rainforest condemned to die. It is communities that have been ignored while their homes have been snatched away. This is not development. This is destruction dressed in development’s language. So I will say it plainly, and I will keep saying it: what is being done in Great Nicobar is one of the biggest scams and gravest crimes against this country’s natural and tribal heritage in our lifetime. It must be stopped. And it can be stopped - if Indians choose to see what I have seen.
