@LAMillennialMom @brittilina On this track I would say I am more likely to make a meal for a new mom or a family that has less $ or help from family. I also just get stressed making meals for families of 8+ kids. Truth.

@brittilina I don’t want you to take this the wrong way, because everyone has different budgets and abilities, and I respect that you have those boundaries. But, could it be that the women who are getting the bigger showers/meal trains have contributed to others’ more in the past?

BRAINSTORM WITH ME? Okay, so some of the comments have inspired me. I don’t go to every shower bc that would become a line item in our budget, and we don’t have that much wiggle room. I don’t participate in meal trains bc cooking is incredibly stressful to me anyway, and I don’t want to flake when ppl NEED me to follow through. But! I can make an effort to ensure that our church (all the women, at least) is made aware of expecting mamas, and their registry, and try to standardize the meal trains so you don’t have some ladies getting six meals and some having the entire first month covered. And I can maybe solve the conundrum of WHAT TO DO with mamas who are having their 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. babies. QUESTION: If you have more than one baby, what was something that was really useful to you but is not considered a “baby gift”? What are items you HAD (maybe that you bought) that made postpartum easier? Are there other ideas I haven’t thought of that you would mention “This was GREAT when I was postpartum”? Could range from like “paper plates” to “snacks the older kids can get for themselves” to “a twin mattress for the older kiddo so the baby can use the crib”. For the second part of that question (items you had), I’m thinking of my potty seat with a ladder and now I don’t have to lift my 3yo onto the potty when she has to go.
Brittany@brittilina

So this is me admitting to envy publicly, but also just feeling sad for missing out on … something. Might delete. At our church, we have a policy of letting small groups handle ministries like baby showers and meal trains and such. The small group I attend didn’t forget me or anything. They gave me a small diaper shower at one of our meetings and set up a meal train for four meals after we got home from the hospital. But it does hurt to see other ladies who were pregnant at the same time as me getting full-on showers with registry gifts (we needed actual baby things again, and $$ is tighter than it was w our 3yo) where the whole church was invited. Just now, the sister of a new mama posted her meal train for the whole church to participate in and it had a solid fourteen meal slots. We went to church with our baby for the first time this week, and one of the leaders of the women’s ministry told me she didn’t even know I was pregnant. Just feels like you have to be popular to get more support, and if you don’t have an advocate or want to toot your own horn, you aren’t as valued as other women. So now I’m midnight-nursing-ugly-crying over here. Don’t mind me. Most ppl don’t. *end self-pity vent* P.S. I had this same feeling with my last baby - the shower situation was exactly the same (our gap then was 5 years, so we had even less baby stuff then). We had more financial wiggle room, but I struggled postpartum and really could have used a robust meal train.

@TrimpeChristine I just don’t understand how folks in MI are shocked by cold weather in April. It.is.always.like.this. Accept that consistent springlike weather doesn’t really begin until May and you will be less saddened by the cold in April.

Turns out that giving a mentally disturbed teen girl a double mastectomy and making them infertile with horrible drugs is actually deeply traumatic and doesn’t improve their mental health at all. It makes it worse. Who could’ve possible predicted this? 🤦🏻‍♂️

@literaryeric @mizsarah I worked at Hudson’s in the late 80s during HS/college to help pay for school. No way would it have come close to covering the whole cost, even had I worked full time.

@mizsarah My argument is that people who work retail have been poor as long as we have had retail work. If you want to poke holes in that, let’s hear it.

In the 1980s, both of my parents worked in the mall. They had a house and three kids. I can tell you how they did it: we were poor. We had no money for anything.

Häagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream is ice cream par excellence. It's ice cream its Platonic form. You can actually taste the eggs, the cream, the sugar, like they're all separate notes in a symphony. I do not even particularly care for ice cream, and I think it's heavenly.

@Themagicmuir Yes, this. I’ve had 7 babies naturally (some epidurals, some not), no complications. Some women have complications and C sections, but I know several who’ve have had 4 kids after c section.

@adesertdryad No one ever did this for their grandchildren unless there was great need or they lived in the same home. There is a middle ground here (that routinely gets ignored for clicks): if you live nearby capable grandparents, it’s helpful if they can babysit sometimes.

glad to finally see some pushback on the “boomer (women) are so selfish for not providing free full time childcare to grandchildren until they keel over” idea its dumb if you think about it for more than 2 sec

Wait a minute. I did not consent to this. This is the same thing as somebody putting a drug in my drink to hurt me. This is not legal, and this is crimes against humanity. RFK Jr is supposed to be regulating our foods. What the fuck is going on and who approved this? This is ACTUAL DRUGGING of Americans.

They’re putting vaccines in nearly all U.S. food now. One head of lettuce might be normal the next could contain a vaccine. We need to label vaccine-laced produce. You shouldn’t buy tomatoes and unknowingly get a polio vaccine.

Jessica is probably one of my favorite people on X. Bigger accounts steal her work all the time, but she is the one actually doing the work. Case in point: she is live on the ground at the Piker x El-Sayed rally at MSU. Give her a follow. She rules.

@HistoryUnd I would visit them for 2 weeks every summer at their farm they bought in their retirement on one of the Great Lakes. We’d tend their garden, make applesauce, can pickles & fruit. I’d spend hours traipsing the creek. Then we’d watch Lawrence Welk. Only thing on!
