A movie unconcerned with character development and meaningful dialogue, is also unconcerned with lecturing, making Oscar casting requirements, making women look invincible, and being gay with gay characters. This movie was an absolute blast. Nonstop action, never-ending easter eggs and I laughed out loud twice. My kids loved it. And that's the point.

genuine question: why are the arts and gaming communities so fucking touchy about ai? i get that 99% of examples are slop but we’re reaching a point where ai-generated media is indistinguishable for 90% of the world that shouldn’t go un-acknowledged just because you want to hide behind a professional identity ai isn’t going away, it’s getting (a lot) better, so why not try and figure out how to work with it to your advantage? isn’t that what a bunch of hollywood is realising now? doomer: “NO THIS IS NOWHERE CLOSE TO PIXAR GRADE” 8 year old (target audience): “haha that’s awesome” what am i missing?

Gamers don't realise how much game devs sacrifice to make a game. The amount of stories I have heard over the years about marriages ending or coming close to ending because of devs doing crazy hours particularly at the end of a project is unfortunately very common! Here is one example, towards the end of Portal 2 the lead designers wife was threatening to leave him because he was pretty much living at Valve, so he made the decision to step back and delegate to another team member. (I've met his wife, she is lovely.) Even with my interviews my wife sacrifices a lot for me to be able to do it and it's something I struggle to balance. With great success, usually comes great cost.

I hope you now see why i'm so negative towards ubisoft with how they handled the post launch of AC Shadows. They would market fixes in their roadmap such as 'headgear in cutscenes' as new features that they released months later. Meanwhile Pearl Abyss see people on twitter request it, and instantly get to work in days. Mind you, this is their FIRST ever single player game.

Yep. Insane. A decision I think is wrong, and one that’s simply not in me to make. Unearned surface level pulp that treats the world as background to a mostly cozy DnD campaign. But, it’s also a decision made by a very different individual in a different context. Crucially, the context that actually gets any of this made in the first place. So yes, it’s an eye-roll from me. But not a personal one. The machine that makes any of this exist runs on recognition, not coherence. And that machine is the context of this story’s creation. tldr: it is what it is

I kinda really love Grandia so far. The battle system is a fun take on ATB and feels nice once you get the hang of it. Outside of the mechanics it’s just really charming. Cartoony? Yeah but it just fits very well with the story and characters.

For those that don’t know, I am one of the managers at my local movie theater. Lately I’ve been having a rough time and even considering leaving my job because of how stressful it’s been. But with the last few days of Mario, I have seen so many families and kids coming in, so excited to see this movie and just to be happy to be in a theater that it has literally rejuvenated my passion and brought joy back into my work.

@verytragic Is it needed? Is the game good at baseline? Does the challenge change things? Dark Souls NG+ is the perfect way to do it- you do not need to do it to enjoy the game, it's a great game, and the difficulty forces you to rethink how you fight some bosses entirely

"It's for kids" — so were Peter Pan, Beauty & the Beast, Toy Story, Incredibles, Narnia, The Hobbit, The Little Mermaid, and so on down a very long list of brilliant stories. "It's like they wanted [good writing]" — I would've settled for something that at least matched the story of the Super Mario Galaxy game, which a lot of this movie's defenders were apparently too dim to notice. "It's like they were expecting [a brilliant movie]" — see above. Apparently, even matching the story quality of the last Mario movie was too much to ask. "It was never intended to be [great], I thought it was great" — either it isn't great and that doesn't matter, or it is great and you should argue for its quality. Make up your mind. "Loads of fan service" — believe it or not, you can have fan service AND a good story. I'm getting bored of making this point: nobody loses if the writing is better. This hostility to the application of basic creative standards says a lot more about you than it does the critics.

It's mental that people are heavily critiquing The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. It's a kids film, I took my 5yo son to see it today and he LOVED it. It's like they wanted shocking drama, gut wrenching monologues, life lessons, deep metaphors. It's a slightly chubby Italian plumber and his brother in their overalls, on an adventure with a screaming mushroom. That's literally all that matters. It was never intended to be Shawshank Redemption or Ben Hur, was it? I thought it was great, loads of fan service, and introduced a new generation to the amazing Fox McCloud/Star Fox 💙
